If I would have to look back and see where I learned the most and excelled the most
would have to be my high school years. Throughout my high school career I have
went from a very simple minded person in 9th grade to thinking everything through
and questioning many things instead of just accepting them. Since I was younger I
always wanted to be a welder. I always wanted to be a welder because I always
wanted to be like my dad; he has been a welder at Letterkenny Army Depot for 6
years and I have seen him welding at home and would always say I was gonna do
that when I got older.
The whole thought process of me being a welder went out the window when I
was in eighth grade and took the nine week introduction class to Drafting & Design. I
walked in thinking that it wouldnt be my type of class because I have never been a
person to draw and I was never a creative person. I gave it a chance and I loved the
class. I blew through the class that marking period. I then returned in ninth grade and
then in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth as my vo-tech; which is part of the Fulton County
Area Vocational Technical School. I have always like the mechanical side of things
while in drafting. When I was younger I would always just look at the final assembly
and I never looked at how the assembly was created until Drafting. In that class I
realized everything that is made of manufactured has to start out as just an idea.
A person experience in the mechanical field that can help me excel and
understand mechanical process would be me being in the garage since I was four. I
have always loved to be in the garage, I got my first dirt bike when I was four and I
always would help my dad work on things. I eventually started racing dirt bikes and
fourwheelers and my dad and I would always work on our own things. So since a very
young age I have been learning about working on things and how they worked.
So in conclusion I have always had a very high interest in mechanical
engineering since I realized what it was. I feel that I would be able to succeed in the
engineering department at Penn State because of my knowledge in mechanical
concepts. Also I feel this way because of my experiences in Drafting and Design
Department. I would really like to be a part of your engineering department and
pursue my degree in mechanical engineering.
