Wellhead Isolation Tool

e Wellhead Isolation Tool (WIT) isolates the wellhead from
exposure to treating uids and pressures. e isolation tool
contains a seal element and mandrel that are inserted through the
existing wellhead bore and tubing hanger into the production
tubing. e seal element and mandrel conguration allow treating
uids to be pumped through the WIT directly into the production
tubing. Tubing pressure activates the tool by energizing the sealing
element.

HAL16414

e simple and economical WIT is ideal for breakdown treatments

and fracturing jobs. It is also used to protect the wellhead from
high pressure in tubing conveyed perforating situations where
pressure actuated ring heads are used.
Erosion rates vary considerably with dierent uids. A working
guideline for erosion rate is 125 /sec (3810.05 cm/sec). is
guideline is a generalization and is recommended as a safe working
maximum unless a specic and carefully controlled set of
conditions is known.
e WIT can be used to upgrade the working pressure limits of
well systems for many stimulation requirements. Although no
special adjustments are required to the wellhead tubing system,
treating conditions should be designed within tool limitations, and
the customary precautions of working with a live well should be
carefully followed.
Features and Benefits
Independent hydraulic system provides positive control and
greater reliability while the mandrel is inserted into tubing.
Patented internal conguration minimizes erosion in tubing.
Design provides redundant safety control.
QA/QC tests and inspections for enhanced safety and service
quality.

e tool is installed and removed without killing the well. e

assembly is attached to the wellhead, and the mandrel is extended
completely through the wellhead to seal in the tubing body. e
mandrel cup-type sealing element can be adapted to t various
tubing sizes and weights. Attaching the tool assembly to the tree is
best accomplished with anges rather than threaded adapters.
For increased safety and more positive sealing, a mechanical lock is
used to hold the mandrel securely in place.

Low-Profile Wellhead Isolation Tool

e low-prole Wellhead Isolation Tool (LP WIT) provides all of
the benets of the conventional WIT in addition to signicant new
features and benets. e LP WIT provides much lower access to
key components when stroked down into the well (such as the
valve system and pump-in connections) than conventional tools.
Lower rig up and rig down height translates into improved safety
during the job.

Features and Benefits

Lower prole for easier access
Lower rig up / rig down height helps improve safety
Lower overall weight when rigged up puts less lateral stress on
wellhead
Fewer components help lower maintenance

Additionally, the lower prole of the LP WIT comprises less weight

than conventional tools which means reduced stress and lateral
forces exerted on surface equipment and the wellhead. e LP WIT
requires fewer components to assemble, leading to fewer problems
with its operation and lower maintenance costs.

Low-Profile Stage Frac Wellhead Isolation Tool

Features and Benefits

e low-prole stage frac wellhead isolation tool (WIT) isolates the

wellhead from exposure to treating uids and pressures. e
isolation tool contains a seal element and mandrel that are inserted
through the existing wellhead bore and casing hanger into the
production casing. e seal element and mandrel conguration
allow treating uids to be pumped through the low-prole stage
frac WIT directly into the production casing. Casing pressure
activates the tool by energizing the sealing element.

Sealing element installs directly into casing to completely isolate

surface wellhead equipment from treating uids and pressure.
10,000 psi working pressure
Wireline lubricator installs on top of stage tool for gun and plug
runs between stages.
Independent hydraulic system provides positive control and
greater reliability while the mandrel is inserted into casing.
Design helps provide redundant safety control

e low-prole stage frac WIT is ideal for breakdown treatments

and stage (multiple) fracturing jobs. e large bore ID of the
mandrel and cup mandrels allow the deployment of casing tools,
such as Fas Drill frac plugs and perforating guns between
fracturing/pumping stages, without having to remove the tool
between stages. e wireline lubricator can be installed directly on
top of the stage tool for this type of operation. e low-prole stage
frac WIT is also used to protect the wellhead from high pressure
during fracturing/pumping services.

Inspection to help enhance safety and service quality

Operation
e tool is installed and removed without killing the well. e
assembly is attached to the wellhead, and the mandrel is extended
completely through the wellhead to seal in the casing.
For increased safety and more positive sealing, a mechanical lock is
used to hold the mandrel securely in place.

Erosion rates vary considerably with dierent uids. A working

guideline for erosion rate is 125 /sec (3810.05 cm/sec). is
guideline is a generalization and is recommended as a safe working
maximum unless a specic and carefully controlled set of
conditions is known.

Each assembly comes with one each 10,000 psi cup mandrel
(101590266).

e low-prole stage frac WIT can be used to upgrade the working

pressure limits of wellhead systems for many stimulation
requirements. Although no special adjustments are required to the
wellhead system, treating conditions should be designed within
tool limitations, and the customary precautions of working with a
live well should be carefully followed.

Other cup mandrels for HW 5 1/2 in. casing and 4 1/2 in. casing
are being developed for future release.
