4 Quadratic Functions Review

Target Audience: Algebra 2
Overall Goal of Lesson: The goal of this lesson is to enhance students skills and
understanding of quadratic functions and their properties through review and
practice.
Learning Objectives:
1. Students will be able
2. Students will be able
y=a(x-h)^2 +k
3. Students will be able
4. Students will be able
5. Students will be able
quadratic functions.

to transform quadratic functions.

to describe the effects of changes in the coefficients of
to define, identify, and graph quadratic functions.
to solve quadratic equations by graphing or factoring.
to make connections among representations of

Student Prior Knowledge: Students will have already been exposed to 5.1-5.4
concepts. They will have the skills to graph and solve quadratic equations.
Assessment: Students will be formatively assessed through their participation in
the class activity and through teacher monitoring. Students will also be formatively
assessed on their answers to the Desmos activity that will be collected.
Standards:
PS.4: Model with mathematics
AI.QE.4: Solve quadratic equations in one variable by inspection (e.g., for x^2 =
49), finding square roots, using the quadratic formula, and factoring, as appropriate
to the initial form of the equation.
AI.QE.7: Describe the relationships among the solutions of a quadratic equation, the
zeros of the function, the x-intercepts of the graph, and the factors of the
expression.
Length of Lesson: 45 mins
Schedule of Activities:
8 mins : Kahoot Quiz
2 mins: Transition/Explanation of Activity
30 mins : Exploration of Desmos Activity with partner
5 mins : Wrap Up and hand out worksheet
Launch/Before (8 mins) Students will start out with a Kahoot Quiz. The quiz will
serve as a review practice of concepts they should already be aware of.
During (32 mins): The rest of class will be focused on an exploration activity.
Before students start the activity, the teacher will explain how the activity works
and what the expectations are. Students will be partnered up with their elbow
buddies and work on the Desmos activity together on their chrome books. The

activity will challenge students to apply their knowledge about quadratic

functions and their properties. While students are working, the teacher will walk
around and formatively assess the students by monitoring their progress and
understanding. The teacher will also aid students with guided questions if there
are unclear about a certain prompt.
After (5 mins): Once students wrap up the activity, they will be allowed to work
on their assigned homework. The Desmos activity allows for students to submit
their answers to the teacher which will serve as part of their participation and
formative assessment.
