Anebook,electronicbookordigitalbookisatextandimagebasedbookpublishingindigitalformthatcan
bereadoncomputers,tabletsandsomemobilephones.ThefirstEbookwasmadebyacompanycalled
ProjectGutenbergin1971,whichwasdrivenbyacollegestudentnamedMichaelS.Hart.Hisambitious
weretocreateawebsitewhereeverybodywereallowedtoreaddigitalbooksanywhereatanytime(1).E
booksareusedinmanydifferentuniversities,forinstanceinFinland.Finlandisoneoftheworld'stop
countriesintermsofschoolgradesandtechnology(2).Thisinspiredustoalsomakeuseoutofthis
development.Today,Ebooksarerarelyusedbystudents,professorsofJU,whichworriesus.Thestudent
shouldbeabletotakepartofallthebooksthatareavailable,butthatisnotpossiblewhentheoriginalbooks
arelimited.Bystudyingotherlibrariesthatusetheebookshasseengreatbenefitsfromit.Whenthestudents
havebeenabletosavemoney,timeandhastheopportunitytoborrowmanyquantitiesofthesamebook(3).

PROBLEMFORMULATION:
AstheCaliforniaStateAuditorReportstates,Increasesintextbookpriceshavesignificantlyoutpaced
medianhouseholdincome,whichmakesitmorelikelythatsomestudentswillforgoordelayattending
collegebecauseofthefinancialburdenthatpostsecondary
In2013,InsideHigherEdwroteanarticleaboutdoublespendingatuniversities.Thearticlereportedthat
studentsofuniversitiessuchasStanfordarespendingover$100,000collectivelyeachsemesteroncourse
materialsthatarealreadyfreelyavailabletothemonthethousandsoflibrarydatabasestheydontknow

theyhaveaccessto.Untilthebeggingof21 centurybooksweretheonlymethodtotransferknowledge
widely,butnowdaysinternetisthefirstandmostpowerfulsourceofinformationavailableintheworld.
Accesstoinformation,andinthisparticularcase,educationcontentsisdynamicallychange,leading
universitytoreinventtheirknowledgedistributionchannel.Universityworldwide(andJonkopingUniversity
isaclearexample),areslightlymovingfromaninstructionbasedonpaper(physicaltextbook)toan
electronicone(slidesforclasses,electronicarticles,videoconferences,internetbaseworkingplatformfor

thematerialsandthelectureonline.Wearespecificallyfocusingontheelibrary,ordigitallibrary(Adigital

audiomaterial,videomaterial,storedaselectronicmediaformats(asopposedtoprint,microform,orother

Universities.Thesechanges(alreadyinuseinmanyuniversities)willbringhugebenefitsforstudentsand
teachers.Studentshaveaccesstoamassivebooktextandarticles,withouttheneedtobephysicallyonthe
building,andwithouttheneedofloan(thephysicalbook),theycansearchforthematerialtheyneedonthe
platformdesignedforthispurposeandhavingaccesstobooks,magazine,articles,journalsthataredividedby
subjectsorfilteredthoughttheresearchersneed.Thefilecanbedownloadedintoadevice(pc/tablet/reader)
orcanbeconsultedonline(streaming),inthefirstcase,theuserisalsoabletotakenotes/highlightand
modifythefileforabetteruserexperience.Thedownloadallowstheusertobenefitofitforaperiodof30
days,afterthatperiod,thefilemustberedownloaded.Themultipleaccessatthesamefileallowthelibraryto
buyasinglecopyofthebookandthestudentafreeuse,notlinkedtounavailability(becausealreadyloaned),
additionallytheusercanchooseifdownloadtheentirebook,orasinglechapter/page.Thistechnologyhas

andactualworkoncreatephysicalcopies),distributionismadethroughvirtualsystem(protectsinternet
connection).Bothactivitiesresultintoanenvironmentalcareresult.Thefileisstoreintoserversandusers
(students)canaccessit,theaccessescanbemultiplesonthesamefile.Thisfilecanbefruitedonlineor
downloadforaperiodoftime(4weeks).

whattheyneedinordertoborrowEbook.So,wedecidedtomakeitbetteranddoresearchquestionsby
askingstudentsandusingsomeinternetsources:DuringourmeetingwithDaniel(memberoflibraryinJU),
hetoldusthattheyhavegotapositivereacttoputEbooklibraryinservicesincelast7years.Sothat
studentsandeventeacherscanaccessanduseit.WhatarethebenefitsbyusingEbooklibrary?Inaddition,
