7th Grade Math
2016-2017

Welcome to my 7th grade math class! It is my third year teaching here at Vaughn and I
am excited to get to know you, both students and parents, over the course of this year. It
is my goal to always be available to your needs and meet your expectations as an
educator. I am confident that it will be an awesome year!
Course Description
This course is designed to help students develop and reinforce their mathematical skills.
There are three main ideas/concepts: engage and motivate, promote deep conceptual
understanding, and ongoing formative assessments. We are starting a new textbook
series this year, titled Carnegie Learning. This program will help students become a
deeper mathematical thinker. In class, students will be given the opportunity to learn
math vocabulary and concepts through class discussions and cooperative group work.
Not only will this class focus on math skills, but it will also help students build their social
interaction with their peers. The textbook is available online for the students to access at
home.

2. Throw away all food and drinks in a garbage can outside. No food or drinks (besides
sealed water bottles) are allowed in the classroom.
3. Arrive on time and enter class quietly.
4. Read the agenda and place all necessary materials on your desk.
5. Copy the homework assignment in your planner.
6. Have homework assignment ready to be checked and stamped.
7. Begin working on the agenda and prepare to learn!
Carnegie Textbooks
Each student will receive 4 textbooks 2 Student Texts (ST), 1 Skills Practice (SP), and 1
Student Assignment (SA). The textbooks are consumable, which students can tear out
the pages and write directly on them. If a student loses or damages a textbook, s/he will

be required to go online to print all necessary pages. The textbook can also be viewed
on smart phones and other hand-held devices (smartphones, iPads, tablets, etc).
Extra Help
Students can receive extra help from the Gear Up program before and after school.
Students are also encouraged to join the Nutrition Homework Club, which is held every
day in my classroom during nutrition. If needed, students can arrange additional time to
work with me before or after school.

heading, be legible and neat, and must show all work. Assignments that have not met
these requirements will not receive full credit. Green stamps will be earned for
completed assignments, while red stamps will be given for incomplete and below
standard work. Homework packets will be collected on the day of the chapter test.
Quizzes, Tests, and Projects
Students will occasionally take homework quizzes based on the previous nights
homework, which they can use on the quiz. Formal quizzes may also be given to check
progress of skills learned. Projects are usually assigned as a culminating activity or when
a skill learned requires multiple steps. Projects can also take place of a formal quiz or
test at any time. A will be given at the completion of the chapter/module. Test and
quizzes will be graded and returned to students. A parent signature will be required for
all tests and quizzes.

Absence Policy
If you happen to be absent, it is your responsibility to get your make-up work. If you are
absent the day an assignment or packet is due, you are to turn it in immediately when
you return to school. If you are absent the day of a test or quiz, you will be given class
time to make it up within 2 days after you return.
Code of Ethics
Please refer to your student handbook for School-Wide Cheating Policy. At any time group
work is scheduled and numerous complaints have been made for lack of participation,
that student will be required to complete the assignment individually with a reduction of
10% of their grade for that assignment.
