CHAPTER VII
Conceptual Analysis
The spatial design must have a coherence with the projects users. In order to have
a sound plan, design schemes will be patterned to its users. To help blend users and
architecture, conceptual analysis will be shown and will then be the governing design idea
of the entire project.

Design Philosophy

Design isnt just the visual and functional context, its also the unique
experience you get from it

Architecture is indeed a tangible translation of an idea. Its as well the

concrete interpretation of a concept where users perform actual flow and motion.
But these solid structures only fall under the physical dimension of architecture,
feel and ambiance completes the entire experience.
The philosophy is applicable to the project since the users should be able
to define the design pattern. Impression and atmosphere within the sanctuary
should be able to give users the sense of home and involvement. Small details
would also make great difference in completing the overall scheme.

II.

Design Concept
Coexistence: Design using balance between curves and angles
A mental facility is a place where users should have that sense of therapy.

Aside from rehabilitation, the place should also evoke the feel of involvement and
home. Having these considerations, the project came up with the Coexistence
concept where balance between curves and angles will be mainly showcased. The
concept was conveyed to illustrate a dimension wherein Architecture will be used
to bridge the world among mental disturbance and stability.

III.

Design Objectives
1.

To design a Home Care Facility that is secured and suited for post

psychiatric and substance abuse patients through patterning and zoning

the spaces after the users activities.

2.

To design a Home Care Facility that would diminish the negative

notion among psychiatric facilities through maximizing natural amenities

and creating an optimistic feel and atmosphere.

3.

To design a Home Care Facility that is available for the entire Bicol

region and is accessible to other medical facilities in case of emergency.

IV.

Design Considerations

1.

Security

One of the main considerations inside the sanctuary is the

users safety in terms of indoor environment as well as the
safekeeping within the vicinity of the location.

2.

Accessibility
The Accessibility Law (BP 344) will be primarily considered
since the users will be members of persons with disability. User
friendly spaces will also be measured for ease of access.

3.

Circulation
The movement of the users should have a good traffic flow
that can easily be familiarized and direct would users to where
theyre designated.

4.

Zoning
Area sectioning would be taken into measures to ensure
control of circulation and movement of the users especially the
patients. Sectionalizing of spaces also means that some areas would
be sealed once some parts are open and vulnerable.

5.

Ambiance
The atmosphere of the environment should make the users
feel that the setting isnt cluttered and highly fenced. Users should
be able to make different impression of the facility as supposed to an
odd mental institution.

6.

Comfort
Although the main consideration of the facility is security,
comfort and coziness inside the sanctuary should also be measured.
Patients quarters as well as public areas would be given same
amount of comfort measures.

7.

Vista
The site location is abundant in natural resources as well as

amazing view, spaces would maximize the vista that would help in the
mental therapy of the users.

8.

Orientation
The facility would take into considerations the orientation of the

building to maximize natural lighting as well as ventilation.

9.

Form
H.I.V.E. is a unique place for people with continuous mental attention

so unique forms that would give the users new experience will be
considered.

Green Architecture
Lastly, simple and modern green solutions would be used to help

contribute in the conservation of energy as well as nature preservation.
