Modeling
Tank Assembly

In this report, we model a tank by using simple features of solidworks software. The
main purpose of this assignment is to get awareness with simple feature of
solidworks. For this we have chosen a tank with the approval of instructor.

For this purpose, we model four different parts and then assemble it in solidworks
assembly.
The method of modeling of parts are shown blow:
Body
The first part which we
body of tank. For this just
sketch the body and then
extrude it.

model is the

Then we just extrude it,

Then sketch on the one

side of body for the fixing of wheels and then simply extrude it too as did erlier.

Then made a
sketch on the side
view and use
extrude cut to
make the inclined
on the side of
body.

The next which we

do is to make the
axils for the wheels.
For this we just
sketch the circles and
extrude them with
required dimensions.

\Here we have made

the back gate of the
tank. Just having
simple sketch and
extrude feature.

With the help of this back gate of

tank we use a shell command to
make the tank hollow. As firstly it
was a solid.

As we can see a hollow inside in this

picture.

Similarly, with the help of many

sketches on different surfaces
and planes and then use
simple extrude command of
solidworks we have modeled
many of features of tank, such
as side mirrors head lights
indicator lights and many
others bolts and gates, as
shown.

And the next thing which we are

using here is sweep command for
modeling the wheel cover with the
body. For using sweep command, we
need two sketches on is the profile
and second is the path on which the
profile moves and sweep on it and
produce material in case of sweep
boss. But in case of sweep cut it will
remove the material as extrude cut
works.

The next we are using a mirror command this command is use to make same
feature on the other side of a plane or the surface this is a very powerful feature of
solidworks. It made easy for making the parts on the other side of the plane which
are having same distances from the surfaces. Here we use this mirror command for
all the features which are similar on the other side. Such as axils of wheels, side
mirrors and head lights, indicator lights and the wheel covers.

Here we can see in the following pictures what mirror did with model.

Here again by using different sketches and

simple extrude we have generated many of
feature on the front of the tank.

In the end complete body of tank looks like.

Wheel
Here we are using the revolve command for
modeling the wheel and for using the revolve
command we need am axis along which the
sketch will produce the material. In case of
revolve cut the material will be removed from
the part.

And for our will the sketch and revolves are

shown here.

Then by using the circular pattern of an

extrude cut we get the pattern on the tier of
wheel and the final product which we get is
shown here.

Gun housing

This part of tank is also

very simple uses the
sketches on the
surfaces and then there
extrudes. But the
diffrence is the use of
draft on/off command
uses here.

The final gun housing is

shown here.

Gun

simple

This part is the simplest in all of

the assembly uses the simple
sketches and extrudes.

Assembly
The assembly file is opened first, and then insert components in the
assembly.

Then browse for all the parts which we have

modeled earlier.

After getting the parts in the assembly all we have to do is just mating. There are
several types of mates in the solidworks library. But which we discuss is just
concentric and coincident mate.

Concentric mate:
It is the type of mate in which two cylinders or two circles are
with the common axis or common point respectively.

Coincident mate:
It is a type of mate in which any of line, point, face and circle
can be fixed at the single place it.
Just by using these two mates we have fixed all our assembly as it is not
complicated. And dont have any of critical motion in it.

All the mates between the axils of wheel gun housing and gun are shown in the
picture shown here.

In the end, we get our complete assembly.

set

Conclusion:
In this assignment, we have learnt that how to optimize the 3D object to model and
we go through many of simple features of solidworks such as extrude boss/cut
revolve boss/cut and circular and linear pattern in sketches as well as in features.
And assembly feature such as matting etc.
