Name of Artifact: Service Learning Reflective Summary
Date: December 1, 2015 Course: EDUC 101 Introduction to Teaching Brief Description: In this assignment I was required to write a reflection at the end of the Service Learning period, use the information collected through observations, conversations, and activity checklist to write a minimum three page reflective report that summarizes the knowledge gained while spending extensive time at the Service Learning site. In addition, while writing the reflection I was required to use APA Format, include a Title page, INTASC Standards Description and Rationale page, and a Reference page. This assignment is based on course objectives 10, 11, 12 and 13. Rationale: To document my understanding of InTASC Standard 3, Learning Environments, I have decided to include my Service Learning Reflective Summary of my service learning because it better explains how these standards were meet by the service learning teacher, Ms. Cortney Funk. Ms. Funk collaborates with learners, families, and colleagues to build a safe, positive learning environment of openness, mutual respect, support, and inquiry. She was able to collaborate with learners and colleagues to develop shared values and expectations for civil interactions, rigorous academic discussions, and individual and group responsibility for quality work, while managing the learning environment to actively and equitably engage learners by organizing, assigning, and coordinating the resources of time, space, and learners attention. Ms. Funk communicates verbally and nonverbally in ways that demonstrate respect for and open-mindedness to the cultural backgrounds and differing perspectives learners bring to the school environment. In addition, she has provided a diverse learning environment that adequately meets each students cognitive levels in a positive way. She meets these requirements without limitation or judgment toward her students and their families.
