CSR Project Implementation

I. Partners in Learning Project Shiksha:
It aims to accelerate IT literacy and enhance the classroom environment among government
schools across the country.
Microsofts Project Shiksha- Empowering the future is a focused program designed to
deliver comprehensive training and curriculum leadership for students and teachers in
government schools. In India, Microsoft Project Shiksha has trained over 150000 teachers
and reached over 7.5 million students.
Evaluation:
a. Economic: The project is economic as it has a fixed goal in mind as to how far it can
go with this program. However, time to accomplish the goal is not clear.
b. Ethical: This project is definitely ethical because ethical is obligation to do what is
right and fair and the company is actually doing something good for society. However
apart from IT literacy, there is need to focus on attitudinal/social issues which hinders
the villagers to send their wards to school even for primary education .
c. Legal: The project is legal because there is nothing illegal in accelerating IT literacy.
d. Philanthropic: This project will definitely improve the quality of life of students and

digital inclusion and empowering the underserved individuals through Community
Technology Learning Centre (CTLC).These are centers where individuals and communities

Till date, Microsoft has invested Rs. 47 crore (USD 10.5 million) in this program, spread
across 20 states and Union Territories in India. Till date it has successfully supported 1,075

Recommendations
Microsoft India is already doing an excellent job of improving the life of people of India by providing
them with IT literacy and general skills and education. Most of the initiatives taken by company are
sustainable in the long run. I would like to recommend them to take steps in the field of women
empowerment and disaster mitigation and management .Already some of these projects are under
pipeline to be implemented soon. Also, they can move to dimensions other than IT education to
develop skills in the rural unemployed population. The already existing initiatives fall under the ambit
of sustainable corporate social responsibility.
Microsoft has offices in 9 locations across IndiaAhmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad,
Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, the NCR (includes offices in New Delhi and Gurgaon), and Pune. As per
their policy statement, the preference will be given to local areas where it operates. However, the
company operates in posh areas/ majorly developed cities therefore the purpose is not fulfilled
completely as rural areas needs to be covered and these areas where company operates are developed
cities with higher literacy rate. So, the need of the hour for the company is to focus its efforts on
underdeveloped areas.
