Th following examples refers to impact tests. a a), The average value of a set of three test pieces shall meet the specific requirement. One individual value may be below the specified value, provide that it is not less than 70 % of that value. b) If the conditions described in item a) are not satisfied and not more than two of 4 the three individual values are lower than the specified minimum value,: and § not more than one of the three individual values is lower than 70 % of the specified value, then the manufacturer may take an additional set of threé. test pieces from the same samples. To consider the test unit as conforming, after ously. —816— —G.0404— ‘Ye average value of the six tests shall be equal to or greater than the speci- “qigd minimum value. 1 5) Three or more of the six individual values shall not be lower than the speci- fied minimum value. (Not more than two of the six individual values may be ower than the specified minimum value.) - iyo or more of the Six individual values shall not be lower 70 % of the spedi- fed value. (Not more than one of the six individual values may be lower than 70 % of the specified value.) \riIf these conditions are not satisfied, the sample product is rejected and retests afo-carried out on the remainder of the test unit (see 9.8.2.8). ‘The assessment of some other sequential tests, for example tensile testing in ibe thickness direction, is carried out in a similar manner. 7 ifreatment of leftovers Where the purchaser demands that the samples “fpald be taken from steel materials having the ordered dimensions, he. shall S gecept the leftovers of the steel materials, from which the samples have been taken “and which fall short of the ordered dimensions, as those having the ordered “ginensions. tests | © empling and preparation of test pieces and/or to tests carried out improperly shall ‘jp considered invalid. Such cases include: 2) where, before testing, defective machining is found with the test piece or where “the test piece has flaws considered irrelevant to their quality; b) where an erroneous test operation is found; “where, in tensile test, the test piece breaks off at a point outside 1/4 of the © gauge length from the centre between the two gauge marks, with the result © ‘that the elongation result fails to meet the specifications. cordance with the procedures described in 9.8.2.2 or 9.8.2.3. However, if the ‘lt ofa test should deviate significantly from the specified requirements for the . steel type to be supplied, so that there is a suspicion that products become mixed, nthe procedure described in 9.9 shall be used. “817 —G o404— 9.8.2.2 ‘Tests for individual values Where the unsatisfactory result comes fro; tests for which no average, but only individual values are specified (e.g. tensile tes bend test or end quench hardenability), the following procedures shall be carric out. A a) Where the test unit is a single piece (see Attached Fig. 1). ‘Two new tests of the same type as the one giving an unsatisfactory result! shall be carried out. Both new tosts shall give satisfactory results. If not, the’ product shall be rejected. b) Where the test unit is more than one piece, for example a rolling unit, cast heat treatment condition (see Attached Fig. 2). ‘The manufacturer may, at his discretion, retain in the test unit the samp] product from which the unsatisfactory test results have been obtained, unles; otherwise agreed. v 2) in item 1), but one of the new test pieces shall be taken from the sample product retained in the test unit. Both new tests shall give satisfactor results. 9.82.8 Sequential test Where the unsatisfactory result arises from the sequential method as defined in 9.6 for impact tests (see Attached Fig. 3), the following sequential test shall be carried out. As stated in 9.6, the sample product which has not given satisfactory results shall be rejected. The procedure shall be as indicated in 9.8.2.2 b) 1), carrying out one new set of three tests on each of two different sample products fromi’ the remainder of the test unit, both of which shall give satisfactory results. In this case, 9.6 b) no longer applies. . * The manufacturer shall inform the inspection representative which metho’ sorting or reprocessing was used. —818— —G 0404— ‘oiier properties For other properties (other than chemical composition’ and properties), the inspection shall be as specified in each standard. © ~ jy Surface and internal quality , |] imperfections, which may occur under normal manufacturing conditions, tbe grounds for rejection. : jailed requirements referring to these characteristics shall, wheré propriate, bo agreed upon at tho time of enquiry and order, by roference.to tho “se repriate Japanese Industrial Standard (or, another relevant standard if no ~ fpatese Industrial Standard exists). ~ tection of defects The use of special techniques (radiography, ultrasonics, } = jgnetic detection, etc.) to detect defects, as well as the number of products to be ‘[pted per test unit and the procedures for interpreting the results, when required, ~ “yall be as specified in the product standard or as agreed at the time of ordering. ~ Removal of discontinuities Surface discontinuities may be removed by chanical or thermal means, provided that the dimensions and properties of the product remain within the limit specified in either the order, product standard, ©" juensional standard or surface quality standard. j1d -Repairs by welding Where there is no provision in the product standard or - the order, the purchaser or the inspector may permit local repairs by welding. This “ jgreement may apply either to the whole or only to a part of the consignment. <2 Shape, dimensions and mass Where the shape, dimensions and mass of steel material are to be inspected, their determination shall be made in conjunction with their tolerances using a measuring device with a proper precision. | ‘18 Report ise specified in the order or product specification, for the purpose of deciding | ihether a test result meets a specified value, the results of mechanical tests and nical analysis shall be calculated to a place next to the lowest of significant “ures in a specified value, rounded off in accordance with JIS Z 8401 and “«“apréssed by the same number of significant figures as in the specified value. marks; When using digital display measuring devices, the number of digits shown may be in excess of the precision of the testing device and/or the test method. =819— n 14 Marking The manufacturer shall identify the delivery by marking product or the consignment either in accordance with the product standard o: the agreement at the time of order.
