Rationale
The aim of Science Education in Maldives is to develop scientific literacy
and skills in students. Scientific and technological literacy is an evolving
combination of the science-related attitudes, skills, and knowledge students need
to develop inquiry, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; to become
lifelong learners; and to maintain a sense of wonder about the world around them.
To develop scientific and technological literacy, students require diverse
learning experiences which provide opportunity to explore, analyze, evaluate,
synthesize, appreciate, and understand the interrelationships among science,
technology, society, and the environment that will affect their personal lives, their
careers, and their futures.

Chapter 6: Sun and Sky
Outcome: EB1.2:
Begins to describe features of the Sun and explore its effects
on humans and the
environment.
Indicators.
a. Describes the Sun as only being seen in the day time.
b. Recognizes that Sun gives heat and light.
c. Investigates some effects of the Sun on
humans and the environment (e.g., Sun warms the land, we
feel hot)
d. Acknowledges that Sun is a creation of Allah.
Key competencies.
Making meaning.
Aspects of this key competency can be included in various
activities where students have been asked to analyses the position of
the sun and the moon and to study its effect in our everyday life.
Thinking critically and creatively.
Students nurture their creative skills by participating in the
activities like smart sun or making a night sky.
Relating to people.
In the activities where is the sun now and when they do the
group works they can seek cooperation of one another.
Practicing Islam.
Students understand that the earth, the sun and the moon are the
creation of Allah (SWT).
Values
Values relate to family and others.
Students learn to work in a group peacefully and seek help while
respecting the viewpoint of one another.
Values related to self.
Become aware of the importance of daily routine
Original Task
Introduction.
The main aim of this outcome is the sun and how the effects
of the sun on earth, human and other living and non-living things. So
that the children are going to predict and observe the effects of the
sun. Using a record sheet theyre going to record their observation.
Activity.
Begin the class by asking some oral questions .
Key questions.
What do you see in the sky during the day time?
What is it that give so much light?
Does it give something along with light?
