sharing my timeline
with the graduating
class of 2015
All of you who are graduating this year are at one of
the major turning point of your lives. You are ready to
take on the world and begin your professional lives. I
would like to share with you some of my lifes
experiences, which I hope will help you negotiate the
uncertainties of this crucial period of your lives.
I graduated from Wharton Business School with an
MBA, majoring in finance, 40 years ago in
December 1974. When I graduated, the U.S. was
going through a major recession similar to that of
2008. I was clear in my mind that I wanted to return
to India to pursue my career. This was swimming
against the tide as most Indian students wanted to
continue living in the States at any cost. I saw a more
exciting future for myself in India with the huge
development potential ahead of her, instead of a
run of the mill career in the mature U.S. economy. I
interviewed with Citibank at Wharton, at that time
known as first National City Bank and returned to
India after my initial training in Beirut. Over the next
three decades of my banking career, half was spent
in the Middle East and a lot of my work in Citibank &
Standard Chartered required me to work across the
world. The nature of business was global and I was
open to it and ready to adapt to any environment
which my work demanded. But I always saw India as
my home base. It is important to take a long term
perspective when you are starting your career as
you need to look 30-40 years ahead and not make
the obvious short term choices.
Second, Citibank was the right place to start my
career as it was one the best places to learn the
business of finance and entrepreneurship. It had

Orientation Program (Batch PGDM 2013-15)
The two-week orientation-cum induction program of batch 201416, of Jaipuria Institute of Management laid the first stone on 1st
of July. The students joined Jaipuria from far and away, and the
orientation program took a pause on 14th July with a sensation.
The main intent of this orientation program was to acquaint the
students with foundation courses like Management, Finance,
Economies and Communications. The two-week program
consisted of divergent range of activities from knowing self to
getting comfortable to their peers. More emphasis was done in
order to make the young budding managers, future ready by
showing them how competitive the corporate world is, and how
much potential does every individual has. The program also
embraced an outbound activity which was scheduled at TafreehAgro Park Indore. This was done in order to build a bond among
their peers, which was done through management games and
various outdoor activities. The activity ended with sumptuous
lunch served at site. The induction reached final step Jaipurias
Got Talent, a platform to showcase talent. The program
witnessed a large number of participation from students from the
junior as well as the senior batch. The students showcased
wonderful singing and dancing.
Any institute feels vibrant and walks the path of success and
growth by following a policy of all-inclusiveness by involving its key
stakeholders in decisions taken for their growth and success and
hence the formation of a student council plays a very important
role in this regard. The process commenced by inviting
nominations, the votes were casted in the presence of committee
having their deans and faculty members. The final step of the
process was the personal interview of the short listed candidates,
confidentiality and anonymity of the voters were ensured. The
conquering heroes were then declared as the people in power.

excitement and success. The day was then dedicated to the academic
genius, and the entire Jaipuria was divided into 3 arcades namely

took place, and the masterminds in the arcades were awarded with
certificates and medals by the judges which were invited from different
domains. The zeal and enthusiast was built on at the Rock Concert

competing with ACES IN ASHES and CODE Of CONDUCT. But the same
energy was carried forward to the next and the final day of the youth
carnival. The cultural events also constituted of events namely dance,
singing and mimicry, and we were honoured and privileged to have
with us chief guest of honour Brigadier M. V. Chandran. After all the
event it was the last event of the youth carnival where all the pretty
ladies and gentlemen were ready to walk the ramp with their best
clothes on. The Management fest was the best event experienced by
Jaipuria so far, and which was made possible when all the members of
the Jaipuria-Family joined hands to make this event a memorable one.
Lastly, Jaipuria extends a warm thank you to the sponsors of the event,
HARLEY DAVIDSON, SELFIE, CITY CUT, FOCUS, BIG FM, WEBEDUZ, THE

The reason most people never reach their goals is, that they
don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable
or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what
they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the
adventure with them. With the same prospectus we were
honoured to have with us Dr. Suneel Gupta, Placement chair of
