It gives me immense pleasure to present the third edition of Chronicle to you. The
Campus Chronicle will take you on a tour of the Institute's journey for the year 2014-15.
Jaipuria Indore has successfully completed a cycle of 4 academic years and here the
family feels proud to achieve what we had chalked out as a plan for the year 2014-15.
This task is possible only because of our capable future managers, hard working staff
and esteemed faculty colleagues. We have always boasted of an excellent learning
infrastructure in terms of modern class rooms equipped with latest learning gadgets,
rich library, IT lab and a strong team of faculty endowed with academic accolades and
achievement in industry and business. I take pride to put on record that all the
activities that the institute witnessed in the year gone by are planned and executed
with the mission of Learning by doing things. The whole scenario was well executed
and we were able to achieve excellence in each of such activities.
Let me, along with my faculty and staff members indemnify you that this year was just
another step to make this institute a truly world class B-school. We will continue to
take enormous steps in achieving excellence for the coming years too.
We extended our heartfelt gratitude to all our promoters for their faith and support in
the current system and allowing us to work.

sharing my timeline
with the graduating
class of 2015
All of you who are graduating this year are at one of
the major turning point of your lives. You are ready to
take on the world and begin your professional lives. I
would like to share with you some of my lifes
experiences, which I hope will help you negotiate the
uncertainties of this crucial period of your lives.
I graduated from Wharton Business School with an
MBA, majoring in finance, 40 years ago in
December 1974. When I graduated, the U.S. was
going through a major recession similar to that of
2008. I was clear in my mind that I wanted to return
to India to pursue my career. This was swimming
against the tide as most Indian students wanted to
continue living in the States at any cost. I saw a more
exciting future for myself in India with the huge
development potential ahead of her, instead of a
run of the mill career in the mature U.S. economy. I
interviewed with Citibank at Wharton, at that time
known as first National City Bank and returned to
India after my initial training in Beirut. Over the next
three decades of my banking career, half was spent
in the Middle East and a lot of my work in Citibank &
Standard Chartered required me to work across the
world. The nature of business was global and I was
open to it and ready to adapt to any environment
which my work demanded. But I always saw India as
my home base. It is important to take a long term
perspective when you are starting your career as
you need to look 30-40 years ahead and not make
the obvious short term choices.
Second, Citibank was the right place to start my
career as it was one the best places to learn the
business of finance and entrepreneurship. It had

Samit Ghosh

the best systems & processes along with outstanding

training programs. We were rotated through many areas
of business in a short period of time and given a lot of
responsibilities. Citibank was always at the cutting edge
of the banking industry in all aspects and highly
innovative. We were not afraid of making mistakes or
failure. It is important to choose the first place you work
not for the biggest earning prospects but for the
learning and the opportunities of building the
foundations of your career.
Looking back, the first of the two major turning points of
my career was when I switched my career from
corporate & investment banking to the fledgling
consumer banking in Citibank in 1985. Citibank
pioneered retail banking for the Indian middle class
who were financially excluded. Through my career with
Citibank, Standard Chartered and HDFC Bank, I
witnessed the transformation of the Indian middle class
over next 15 years as they accessed the full range of
financial services. I was exhilarated to have contributed
in their transformation. The second turning point was
when I founded Ujjivan in 2005 to serve the vast
population of Indian working poor, hoping to see a
similar transformation. It is immensely satisfying to see
our customers & their families transforming their lives
slowly but surely with wider access to microcredit. There
is enormous professional satisfaction in participating in
businesses that are purpose driven and those that can
transform lives. Many friends tell me that I have found
my Calling. It is important to find your Calling at some
point in your professional lives. It is not about material
pursuits. Without making a positive impact in the
society we live in, my professional achievements would
be hollow.

Chairmans Speech

Chief Guest for the occasion Shri Samit Ghosh, CEO

Ujjivan, Shri Shreevats ji, Vice Chairman, Dr.
Harshvardhan Halve Director of the Institute,
distinguished members of the academic council,
esteemed faculty members, staf f members,
distinguished invitees, dear graduating students,
respected parents, members of media, ladies and
gentlemen, a very good morning and a warm welcome to
the 3rd Convocation of Jaipuria Institute of Management
Indore
It is indeed a privilege to have you all with us to give
blessings and advice to our students for their future
endeavors.
Samit Ghosh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing
Director of Ujjivan
Samit Ghosh pioneered consumer banking in India with
Mr. Ravindra Bahl and Mr. Jaitirth Rao at Citibank in
1985. He subsequently led the launch of retail banking
for Standard Chartered in the Middle East and South Asia
and for HDFC Bank in India. His last commercial
assignment was Chief Executive India, of Bank Muscat.
He has had international banking experience for over
thirty years now. He is an alumnus of Jadavpur University
and Wharton School
Dear Graduating Students, today is a landmark day for all
of you as All your perseverance and hard work have
blossomed and fructified and you march into new arena
of your lives where you would be required to apply and
implement all yours learning that you have acquired
during two years of Management Education into business
world.. I congratulate you on your achievements. I also
congratulate your parents, guardians and teachers for
their continued support to you in your efforts.

Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore will complete 4

years in September this year. Over the years, the Institute
has grown into an important seat of management learning
and it is recognized as one amongst the finest business
schools in state of Madhya Pradesh& Central India. This has
been possible because of the serious efforts of our
students, faculty, staff and the administration of the
Institute. I take the opportunity to congratulate you all.
I believe it is also my duty to bring to light the contribution
that Jaipuria Group has made in the field of quality
education. Jaipuria Group began its successful educational
journey by establishing Seth Anandram College in Kolkata in
1945 which was inaugurated by our first Prime Minister, Late
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Since then and today Jaipuria
Group has set up four management institutes in Lucknow,
Noida, Jaipur and Indore and also has been instrumental in
opening several branches of Seth M R Jaipuria School
across different cities of India.
Dear graduating students, as you step out today you are at
the threshold of very powerful India unlike the India of
yesterday, it is the India which the world expects to address
global issues of economics. Indias words in major
multilateral deliberations are given due importance and
weightage. Dear students, you have to continue to do your bit
in upholding the legacy of a strong and powerful India. I am
sure that you have gone through a process of transformation
at Jaipuria Indore, and this process of change involved
development of four areas, i.e., character building,
personality development, insight building, knowledge
building and skill building.
Thus, my advice to all of you is to work honestly, efficiently
and diligently in your work environment to enhance the
productivity and performance of your organization. This will
help benefitting all stakeholders of the Indian economy.

Performance leads to recognition, recognition leads to

respect and respect leads to power. Thus, my dear
graduating students, my advice to you is to perform
exceptionally well at your work place. This will not only
help you to rise in the ladder of success but will also make
your parents, your teachers, your institution proud of you
and will go a long way in continuing to make in India a
prosperous, strong and powerful country. Dear students,
in your work place, you will very often have to face
criticisms. Remember that your critic is your best friend
because he or she encourages you to explain your point of
view rationally with data and facts and/or improve your
performance. On the other hand, sycophants make you
complacent. Therefore, dear students respect
constructive critics. If your critics have better solution to
the problem, improve your learning by accepting their
point of view.
Finally, my dear graduating students you must always
adopt a happy temperament in your work and family
environment because a happy mind is very infectious and
spreads very fast. Happy mind is also stress free and
helps you perform better and through its infectious
nature help other people around you perform better too
and we come back to a full circle better performance,
successful organization, proud fraternity and prosperous
India.

My God Bless You!

Jai Hind.

Shri Sharad Jaipuria

I would, therefore request you to do the following:

1.

First, Enjoy life but make a clear goal of your life by

asking yourself what you are going to get of this goal,
what your family is going to get, and what the society is
going to get. That means answering the question how
is your goal of life going to make a positive change in
the country?

2.

Second develop knowledge by personal reading, and

also develop the needed insight by reading the life
stories of great Indians.

3.

Third, focus on developing your personality and

character by having positive and good company.

4.

Fourth, develop as many skills as you can.

5.

Finally, learn how to influence others through your good

behaviour, positive manners, good attitude, and soft
proactive communication.

I am confident my dear students that as you move forward,

you will emerge as future leader in all walks of your life and
make Jaipuria Institute of Management truly proud of you.

Director's Message

I strongly believe that a great institute must always excel in

producing students who are able to add value to the society
and make the needed positive social transformation as
education is a real differentiator in society and it can play a

community of dedicated students and alumni, who can
make a difference in society. This PGDM Batch of 2015 will

and the nation.
Many of you are entering into professional life after the
tireless effort in your student career. You have to carry the
same attitude to your professional lives.

faculty and the staff members of the institute for their
relentless service towards the growth of the institute in
general and of students in particular. I would also like to

banked customers in urban, semi-urban and rural areas, in

milestones covered during the last year.

Director's

report
progress

report

The Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore was set up on 6th

May 2010 and it started its operation in 2011. The institute is
spread over an area of 10 acres with built up area of 6990 sq.
mtrs. Situated on a picturesque location, the campus of the
institute is equipped with all the modern amenities including fully
equipped classrooms and tutorial rooms, library, computer lab,
admin block, well equipped hostels, cafeteria and mess. The
academic programme commenced in July 2011 with a batch of
37 students.

An indication of whether a management institute/business

school is adding value to its stakeholders is how well the students
are accepted in the industry. The industry has expectations from
the management graduates it recruits and I am happy to share
Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore has met those industry
expectations as we continue our legacy of 100% placements:
Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore yet again proved that it
is one of the best B- Schools in Central India by placing the entire
batch of PGDM students of 2013-15. A total of 78 job offers were
made by 34 recruiters, including 27 new recruiters, for the batch
of 73 students. The offers included 9 dual offers. Major recruiters
of the year were Axis Bank, Asian Paints, Airtel Ingram Micro,
Bausch and Lomb, S & P Capital IQ, Aditya Birla Retail, Kotak
Mahindra Bank, Genpact, XL Dynamics and HCL to name a few.
The top segments based on roles offered were sales and
marketing (64 per cent), finance (30 per cent), and general
management (5 per cent). The highest salary offered has been
9.00 LPA and the average has been 3.94 LPA this year.

Much work has gone into making the students corporate-ready.

Even as our third batch of successful graduates, we have
continued to strengthen our core focal points of Mentorship,
strong Industry Interface, relevant Teaching-Learning
Interventions that make the Jaipuria, Indore students future
ready and an asset to the organization he or she would join.

Mentorship in Jaipuria Institute of Management is one of the best

practices practiced at our institution and is perhaps unique to few
business schools following such a practice. Each of our faculty
members act as mentors, counselors, friends and philosophers
to our students in developing their potential. This year, we
extended the Mentorship week to a month to foster deeper
bonding between the students and their faculty mentors. As part
of the Mentorship programme, we have continued our practices
of Individual Development Plans designed for every individual
student.
Clubs and Committees are other best practices, followed at the
Jaipuria Institutions of Management. The year saw learning of
students, continued to be enhanced beyond classrooms as they
themselves managed various events such as the annually held
National level Conclaves in the main domains of Finance,
Marketing, IT and HR-OB: platforms, whereby students gained
knowledge on the latest industry practices and experiences
shared by eminent speakers from the industry. For instance, last
year, the conclave in the IT area was on the topic of Business
Analytics Path To Excellence, coordinated by faculty members-

Dr. Nitin Merh, Dr. Pooja Singh Kushwaha and Prof. Arindam
Saha, in which students received a thorough understanding of
business analytics in all walks of business such as human
resource, retail, finance and operations; the finance area
coordinated the Fourth National Seminar On Demystifying Union
Budget under the guidance of faculty members, Dr. Priti Bakhshi
and Prof. Kalyani Parmal, during which, students enhanced their
understanding of the national budget through the talks and a
panel discussion that included Dr. Ganesh Kawadia Head,
School of Economics, DAVV; CA Manoj Gupta Tax Practitioner,
Mr. Ashok Badjatiya President GIST and CA Anurag Joshi. At this
conclave, the students also made presentations on the National
Budget in front of an expert panel of judges that included CA
Anurag Joshi, Dr. Manish Satlani, Prof. Kaniyya Ahuja, Prof. Vanita
Joshi, Prof. Dheeraj Tiwari and Prof. Dhara Jain.
The Third National Marketing Conclave, facilitated by Prof. Aditi
Naidu and Dr Romi Sainy, on Marketing By Numbers-another
pivotal topic which focused on demonstrating to the students the
importance of measuring Marketing results for better decisions in
Marketing and had eminent speakers in the area of Marketing
from the industry and Academia including, Mr. Arif Sheikh, CEO,
Gammon India; Gaurav Sharma, General Manager-Digital &
Mobility, Omnicom Media Group; Sumanto Kundu, Zonal Head,
Marketing, MP & CG at Videocon Telecom and Dr Anand Sapre,
Director, IIPS, DAVV.
Yet another of our focal points, here at Jaipuria Institute of
Management, Indore-the Winter internships, in which select
students undergo as part of the Industry Mentorship Programme
aptly named Chisel, had students gain industry experience in
organizations. Companies such as Tata Motors, My FM, IMRB,
Tata International, Angel Broking, Pantaloons were some of the
organizations where students carried out their IMP-Chisel
projects. Following the conclusion of their projects, the students
made presentations, judged by managers from the industry.
Apart from the Winter Internships, our Summer Internships which
our students underwent-particularly, those who are receiving
their diplomas today-continued to be of high quality in the
countrys top-notch organizations such as Colgate, Rasna, Dainik
Bhaskar, Bank of India ,SIDBI, Bhilai Steel Plant, Jindal, Axis
Bank, Parle Agro, Hitachi, ING Vyasa Bank, Aditya Birla Group, to
name a few. My congratulations to Prof. Charu Dubey ,
Chairperson-Summer Internships and the Placement team,
under able guidance of Dr. Priti Bakhshi-Chairperson,
Placements and Mr. Abhishek Singh-Placement Manager for
taking the Summer Internships to the next level as also to all the
faculty mentors who diligently guided the student project works.
Apart from industry interfaces which also include guest sessions
where practicing managers from Corporate India take sessions in
the courses, student learning was enhanced last year too with
business simulation exercises such as the AIMA-Chanakya
business simulation exercises, as part of the Strategy
Implementation course.
To ensure student participation and make them equal partners in
shaping their management education experience, Student

Councils were formed on the basis of a transparent and formal

system of inviting nominations, student elections followed by a
round of interviews with the faculty members. Based on this
process the Student Council so formed, was made responsible for
various areas-from Academics, Events, Media Relations to
Admissions and Placements.
Behind these efforts that culminate in the overall development of
the management students, transforming them from students to
practicing managers is the paramount role of a team of our highly
dedicated and strong faculty members. Faculty members are
rightly said to be the founding pillars in higher education and with
that in mind, the faculty members of Jaipuria, Indore have been
engaged in updating their skills in teaching-learning pedagogies
through regular Faculty Development programmes. The year had
faculty members from our campus attend the Pan Jaipuria
Faculty Development Programme in the Jaipuria, Jaipur campus
during which the latest pedagogies in management education
were again discussed and reiterated and faculty members in
cohorts reviewed various interfaces in the learning and
development for students of Jaipuria Institutions of
Management, so as to update curriculum, strengthen the
assessment, evaluation, classroom learning, out of the class
learning and mentoring systems. Through endeavours such as
the Faculty Development Programmes, it is with great conviction
that I can say that our curriculum, learning-teaching pedagogies
are updated in terms of their relevance and currency.
Apart from classroom delivery, faculty at Jaipuria, Indore have
also been engaged in adding value to the industry and society at
large through their research and industry training efforts. With
research being a major responsibility expected of academicians
in higher education, two of our faculty members-Prof. Jagdish
Bhagwat and Prof. Arindam Saha were sent to attend a three day
workshop on research methodology at IMT, Nagpur. Another of
our faculty colleagues presented a case, representing a real
Indian marketing scenario at a National Level Case Summit at the
IIM Raipur where her case was accepted for publication.
Faculty members at Jaipuria, Indore along with their colleagues n
various Administrative posts are also the driving force behind
building a strong infrastructure and learning environment as a
whole for the benefit of students. Infrastructure and facilities for
students that continue to be built including in the last year, is
testimony to Jaipuria, Indores commitment to enrich the learning
experience for its students. Our efforts seem evident in the
student feedback with students indicating a high level of
satisfaction with scores close to 4 on a scale of 5 for areas such
as library services, hostel and residential facilities and support of
Administration office.
I am happy to share with you that the campus infrastructure and
other facilities for the students-especially with them all being
residential students, continued to be enhanced in the last year:
recently, to ensure smooth movement, especially during the
monsoons, the potholes on the road leading to the campus were
filled with cement. The landscaping has been extended; facilities
especially for the hostel have been enhanced -such as addition of
indoor games, installation of an additional Solar heater geezer

and soon to be operational medical room in the hostel area. To

strengthen security in and around the campus, more CCTV
cameras have been installed. Further, since last year, more city
visits have been scheduled for the students as well as a vehicle
has been provided for student movement to the main crossing on
the Highway and back; to allow students greater choice, the menu
has been revised with additional items on the menu at the
canteen. Also, the office layout has been revamped to enhance
student interaction with the relocation and greater space
provided in the Training, Placement and Administration work
spaces. An incubation centre too has been planned and would be
operational soon.
Of course, the journey has also included fun and games, extracurricular activities and celebrations of various occasions that
bind us together as a family, here at Jaipuria, Indore. The Indore
Sports Meet, Sangharsh Maidan E Jung during November
10- 14, 2014 saw a number of competitions in Table Tennis,
Volleyball, Cricket, Mini-football, Kho-Kho, Carrom and Chess with
an enthusiastic participation of our students as well as students
of other institutions. The Fourth Foundation Day was celebrated
on 5th of August to mark the year of the establishment of this
campus; Independence Day was marked with the hoisting of the
National Flag followed by distribution of sweets amongst children
of our neighbouring village and patriotic words shared by all.
Teachers Day as well as various religious festivities such as
Janmashthami, Ganesh Utsav, Id, , Diwali and Holi were moments
amongst many when the entire Jiapuria, Indore fraternity came
together in celebrations.
Recognizing our role towards Social Responsibility and to
sensitize students towards Social causes requiring their
attention, it is with pride that I share with you the wonderful work

Thank you and Jai Hind!

Dr. Harshwardhan Halve

Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore

the students did under the guidance of concerned faculty

members in furthering the cleanliness drive championed by our
Prime Minister as students cleaned and spread the message of
cleanliness in the city in a prime market place in the city in an
activity Swach Indore Campaign. In an initiative managed
primarily by the students, old clothes were donated to a city
orphanage. As charity starts at home, students also planted trees
in the Campus lawns.
Before closing, I would like to present a brief on the future
direction, I envision for our campus to take. We intend to take
Jaipuria, Indore campus to the next level in terms of learning,
industry interface and faculty research. We intend to strengthen
our resources such as the library resources and strengthen cocurricular activities. To continue in ensuring we continue in our
path of offering high quality education, I am also pleased to share
with you, our intension and endeavour as we make efforts
towards achieving NBA accreditation. With entrepreneurship
having been recognized as a key driver in our economy, we intend
to build and support the entrepreneurial spirit and activities in the
region. The soon to be established incubation centre at the
campus would be our step in this direction.
Finally, I extend my hearty congratulations to the graduating
students and their parents/guardians and appreciate their
cooperation during the process of their transformation for two
years which, at times, was very much demanding. I am sure that
this attitude of yours in being committed towards growth and
readily accepting and fulfilling various responsibilities will give
you a distinct edge in your careers. I wish you all the very best for
your future endeavours. May God bless you.

SIP SESSION BY DR. SUNEEL GUPTA, AGM PLACEMENTS

JAIPURIA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, LUCKNOW

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Indore organized its 4th Annual

Youth Carnival JAI-UTSAV with the theme India Lies In you. The theme
was especially dedicated to the youth of the country, because of
their enthusiasm and the life they bring everywhere, they go. India
now has the worlds largest youth capital, the event aims in inspiring
the Gen Y to unleash the true potential in them and building the
leadership qualities to take our country forward to great level of
heights. The two months of hard work really paid off when the day of
the event finally took pace. Jai-Utsav was a three day fun-filled youth
carnival and was a blend of sports, academics and cultural events.
The first day of the carnival was dedicated to sports, and its rightly
said A top athletes beauty is next to impossible to describe
directly, and Jaipuria observed participants from various colleges
of Indore who took part in sports events namely football, cricket and
volleyball. The second day of the carnival started with the
inauguration ceremony of Jai-Utsav, where we were honoured to
have with us Padmashree Dr. Janak Patla McGilligan as our chief
guest for the ceremony. The ceremony started with our old tradition
of lightening the holy lamp and paying tribute of goddess Saraswati.
Jai-Utsav was declared open by our Respected Director, Dr.
Harshavardhan Halve by cutting the cake. Jaipuria felt a fresh ray of
excitement when the crackers where reflecting the feeling of joy,

excitement and success. The day was then dedicated to the academic
genius, and the entire Jaipuria was divided into 3 arcades namely
Marketing, Finance and HR. various events of all the three arcades
took place, and the masterminds in the arcades were awarded with
certificates and medals by the judges which were invited from different
domains. The zeal and enthusiast was built on at the Rock Concert
were 3 band from Indore took part. ZERO GRAVITY won the concert
competing with ACES IN ASHES and CODE Of CONDUCT. But the same
energy was carried forward to the next and the final day of the youth
carnival. The cultural events also constituted of events namely dance,
singing and mimicry, and we were honoured and privileged to have
with us chief guest of honour Brigadier M. V. Chandran. After all the
event it was the last event of the youth carnival where all the pretty
ladies and gentlemen were ready to walk the ramp with their best
clothes on. The Management fest was the best event experienced by
Jaipuria so far, and which was made possible when all the members of
the Jaipuria-Family joined hands to make this event a memorable one.
Lastly, Jaipuria extends a warm thank you to the sponsors of the event,
HARLEY DAVIDSON, SELFIE, CITY CUT, FOCUS, BIG FM, WEBEDUZ, THE
CHOCOLATE ROOM AND TUMMY TULL, without whose contribution the
event wouldn't have been possible.

The reason most people never reach their goals is, that they
don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable
or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what
they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the
adventure with them. With the same prospectus we were
honoured to have with us Dr. Suneel Gupta, Placement chair of

academic experience of over 20 years. He advised the students to
choose career options that we are passionate about, and not

myths and taboos about the organization world.
