Titanium
From the biginning of time, man dreamed of extending his realm beyond the land--first to the sea, then to the heavens. With the development of modern science, that
dream has been realized in the form of jet aircraft, spaceships and deep-sea
submersibles.
Although titanium was developed mainly for use in the aerospace industry, recently
it has seen growing use in various other fields. The largest new user is the chemical
industry.
Titanium is essentially free from corrosion worries, and recyclable. It is an environment friendly metal that is harmonious to humans and the Earths ecology.
JFE
JFE began sales of titanium products, mainly hot rolled plates and sheets, in 1985.
JFE titanium products, produced by technology long refined in steel production, have
earned a good reputation for high quality.
JFE has been developing new products and applications and is advancing steadily
toward introduction of new titanium alloys, such as SP-700.
Characteristics
The ideal characteristics of industrys dream metal
There are two types of titanium in general use, CP (commercially pure) and alloyed. The specific
gravity of CP titanium is 4.5. Materials with various levels of strength equivalent to those of steel
and specialty steel can be selected from the range of CP and alloyed titanium products.
Titanium has excellent corrosion resistance. In fact, it is far superior to stainless steel in most
circumstances, and the corrosion resistance to sea water is equal to that platinum.
Physical Properties
Specific gravity is 4.5, about 60% of steel or stainless steel.
Youngs modulus is low, about 50% of steel or stainless steel.
The coefficient of thermal expansion is about 50% less than stainless steel.
Thermal conductivity and electrical resistance are the same as stainless steel.
It is non-magnetic, with permeability of 1.001.

Main Applications
Expanding applications with newly developing technologies
Titanium is used in many fields of industry---aerospace, chemicals, petrochemicals, thermal and
nuclear power plants, civil engineering, construction and ocean development.
Titanium is seeing increasing use in everyday life as well, not only as eyeglass frames, but also in
golf clubs and wristwatches.

Titanium-Clad Plates
JFEs Titanium-clad steel plates are manufactured in an exclusive rolling process. Clad plates are ideal
when high strength and corrosion resistance are needed simultaneously, such as for pressure vessels,
etc.
The available range is given below. Please consult with JFE for more details.
