Assalamualaikum wbt and a very good afternoon to the chairperson,

honourable judges, teachers, and fellow friends. My name is Nurhusnina

Nazihah bt Mohd Razalli from Firqah Ghazali. I would like to present my
speech on Mosque: One Stop Public Centre.
Members of the floor,
Mosque is the greatest place in the world. This is strengthen by the fact
that the first building that was built during the Migration of Rasulullah to
Madinah is a mosque. From there we should already figure it out that a
mosque is an important building and institution for Islam, Muslims and the
society.
By definition, mosque is generally known in Arabic and Malay Language as
Masjid. It is derived from the word sajada in which literally mean as
pray or the action of sujud in prayer. Therefore, mosque is basically a
place meant for performing sajada or sujud. In Malaysia and Indonesia
smaller sized of mosques are called as musolla which also purposed for
the above acts.
Mainly, mosque is a place that is reserved and dedicated for prayer and
for Islamic lectures. However, I strongly believe that it could also function
as public centre that serve for the benefits of the society at large and the
local communities. Thus, it could be a centre of educational, economical,
welfare, and sports and recreational activities.
The first point I would like to share with you is that how a mosque could
become an educational centre. Usually a mosque offers formal and
informal Islamic educations such as Islamic lectures, Quranic Classes,
Hadith Classes and many more. But instead of these Islamic Classes, it
should also offering Tuition Classes for primary and secondary students,
Languages Classes such as Arabic, Chinese, English, IT Classes and not to
be forgotton technical Classes or workshop.
The second point I wanted to convey is that a mosque is a centre for
economical activities. By creating educational classes above, it creates
the need and demand of economic for the mosque to provide. These
could be realized by having vending machines, groceries shops,
cafeterias, Muslims Attire shops, car wash centre or even an automated
teller machine or ATM in the mosque compound. Mosque could also
provides rest house for the travelers and tourist as this too should
generate jobs and economic growth for the society and local communities.
Dear friends and fellow listeners,

The third argumentation is the mosque as the welfare centre of the

community. The mosque could be the means of information centre for the
community to ask for advices and help. For examples, money collected by
the mosque during Friday Prayer could be used to help te poor and needy
people. The mosque could also create charity fund special for the
community when accidents happened to their members of community.
Mosque could also be a medium to promote sports and recreational
activities. The mosque could organize sports matches, prepares for the
facilities for the public to compete, exercise, and engage in any physical
activities. Such activities provided good and healthy communities as well
as strengthen the brotherhood among the members.
Lastly, the mosque should be used to the maximum capacity. Mosque
should be functioning 24 hours per day. Mosque committee should always
assure the cleanliness of the mosque especially the toilets.
In conclusion, definitely the mosque could unite the strength of the
ummah and improve their quality of life through the above activities.
That is all from me. Thank you and Assalamualaikum wbt.
