1. Overview(1point)
OnNovember2nd,2016Iwasgiventheprivilegetoteachtwentystudentsfrom
thefourthandfifthgradeTigerPrideclassatClevelandElementarySchool.Thecontent
ofmylessonplanwasvolleyball,andspecificallyteachingtheCOTSandstrategiesof
theunderhandserve,bumppass,andsettogetthempreparedforgameplay.Theprevious
learnedskillstothisspecificlessonweretheunderhandpassandbumppasswhichwas
taughttotheclassearlierintheweek.Therequiredequipmentforthelessonweretwenty
polyspots,tenvolleyballs,andavolleyballnetthatwasprovidedbyCleveland.The
lessonwastaughtontheblacktopbetweenthebasketballcourtsandthegrassareaandon
thevolleyballcourtprovidedclosertotheclassroomsandbathroom.

2. StudentLearningOutcomes(6points)
MystudentlearningobjectiveswereCognitive:Studentswillbeableto
understandandrecitetoCOTStotheunderhandserve,bumppass,andsetforthe
volleyball lesson with 80% accuracy. Psychomotor: Students will be able to
performtoCOTSfortheunderhandserve,bumppass,andsetwithaccuracyby
hittingtheirtargetsevenoutoftentimes.HealthRelatedfitness:Studentswillbe
able to maintain 50% moderate to vigorous activity during the lesson. By
watchingthevideoandlookingatthesystematicobservationsIwassuccessfulin
helpingmostofthestudentsreachthegoalsthatIgavethemandmyself.When

askingastudentstoperformthetaskformewhileIwaswatchingtheywould
performtheskillwellusingtheCOTScorrectlyandrecitingthemoutloudas
theydidso.However,ifIletsomeofthestudentsoutofmyvisiontheystop
performingtheCOTSanddoitadifferentwayoutofcontrol.Thinkingabout
this,IwoulddefinitelychangehowIlocatethestudentswhiledoingataskthat
involvespartnersorlargergroups.Thestudentstryshowingoffamongsttheir
peersorthinkitsfunnytowatchthemchaseafteraballthattheyhitashardas
theycould.

3. CreatingaQualityLearningEnvironment(5points)
Ididnotsuccessfullyaddressthe4criteriaofalearningexperience.Yes,
Iwasabletoimprovethemotorskillsofthestudentstoapointwhentheyonly
performedthecorrectskillswhentheyabsolutelyneededto.Iwanttobeableto
getmystudentstoperformtheskillscorrectly,evenwhenImnotlookingat
themormybackisturnedhelinganotherstudent.Iwasabletogiveeveryonethe
sameleveloflearningexperiencebutwasnotabletogivethesameamountof
practicetimeforcertainskillsforeverystudentsingameplay.Gameplaygota
littleoutofcontrolandnotallthestudentswereabletoserve,oreventouchthe
ball.NexttimeifIdoalessonthatwillhavegameplayIwillsplittheclassup
intosmallergroupsandhavesmallergamesgoonatthesametimetobeableto
giveallthestudentsthesamepracticetime.

Goingoffofthesystematicobservation,SOFIT,thatwasdoneonmy
lessonIwasabletokeepatleasthalfoftheclassin48%MVPAwhichisthe

highest I have had it during my time teaching Tiger Pride at Cleveland


Elementary.ThebigthingthatIwouldstillchangewouldbesplittingupthe
classintosmallergroupsandmoremodifiedgameplay.

4. Strengths&WeaknessesinPedagogicalskillset(8points)
a) Wheredidyoumovetoduringyourteachingepisode?Didyouobservefromthe
perimeter?Didyoumovetoallareasoftheteachingspaceduringtheactivity?
During this lesson I was moving around mostly the perimeter of the
class,attimeIwouldputmyselfintothelessonbybeingpartnerswithacouple
ofthestudentswhowerethemoreofftaskedorshowingbadbehavior.Justthe
presenceofhavingmenearthemgetsthestudentsbackontask.Iprovideda
substantialamountofCOTSduringmylesson.IfirstwentovertheCOTSmyself
usingwholepartwhole,thenaskedforastudenttocomeupinfrontofclassand
performthetaskwhilerecitingtheCOTS,IalsowouldprovidemoreCOTS
duringthelessonbyaskingthestudentstostopwhattheyaredoingandlookat
meforareminderoftheCOTS.
WhilegivingmyinstructionsIdidmybesttomakethemquickandclear
whilehavingtheentireclassinfrontofmeorbestandinginaplacethatallthe
students were able to see me and what I was showing them. When giving
feedbackIwouldeithergiveittotheclassasawholeorindividually.Mostofthe
timewhenIgaveittotheclassitwasbecauseIsawthateveryonewasgetting
offtaskandtheirattentionwasnotonperformingtheCOTScorrectly.Iwould
alsousealotofindividualpositivefeedbackbyeitherhavingthemperformthe
tasktomeorjustbywatchingthemandtellingthemwhattheydidcorrectlyad

whattheyneedtoworkon.Iprovideddemonstrations,bothbymedoingwhole
partwholeandstudentdemonstrations.MyfavoritedemonstrationthatIdidwas
pickingtopartnersinthemiddleofthelessontodemonstratewhattheCOTS
shouldlooklikeduringasuccessfultask.DuringthegameplayIshouldvegiven
moreclearinstructionandacoupleofdemonstrationsbeforelettingthemget
straightintoit.
Iwasabletosetupformylessonandcleanuptheequipmentwithout
anydisruptionatall.AttheendofthislessonandallmyothersIalwaysaska
couplestudentsiftheywouldliketohelpcleanupandIusuallygetvolunteers
thataremorethanhappytohelp.DuringmylessonIthoughtthatmyenthusiasm
wasdownalittlelessthanusual.Iwanttofocusonthisformyfuturelessonto
come.

5. Recommendationsfornextsession(4points)
Based on what I achieved with my student learning objectives and
healthrelatedfitnessobjectivesIwanttokeepthemthesame.Iamhappytosee
thatIsucceededbyincreasingmyMVPAandIwantthattokeepimprovingwith
eachlesson.ThemainthingthatIdowanttochangeistobringsomepersonality
intomylesson.Iwanttogotothestudentsandhavethemlineupbehindme
beforethelessonstartsandthenwalkthemovertomylessonareatostarttheday
offwithsomeenergy.
