III. MATERIALS:
Required textbook: Robert Donnelly, Business Statistics 2nd Ed. ISBN 978-0321-92512-1, Pearson Publishers.
Recommended materials: A calculator that can take a square root is sufficient
for the problems. No cell phone calculators or any calculator or other device
that can be connected to the internet are allowed on the tests.
Textbook Website: http://www.pearsonhighered.com/donnelly
Prerequisite: BUSA 3050

IV. COURSE INFORMATION:

Course catalogue description: This is the second of two courses in statistics for
business majors. This course starts with two sample hypotheses tests then
moves to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis. This course
will emphasize application through problem solving. Increasingly in business
more advanced statistical methods are being utilized. The purpose of this
course is to acquaint students with the most widely used multivariate
statistical methods. Prerequisite: BUSA 3050

Course Learning Objectives: Statistics trains students to solve problems

quantitatively. To apply statistical methods for problem solving in this course students

will learn how to

Identify the appropriate statistical tests for numerical data

Recognize appropriate probability distributions to use with data

Identify and interpret hypothesis tests

Evaluate statistical results as to their meaning and relevance

Topics Covered: two population hypotheses tests, goodness of fit tests for
multinomial distribution and test of independence, ANOVA, simple linear regression,
multiple regression
Teaching Methods: Lecture videos are posted that cover all chapters and
topics. It is essential that you view these taped lectures if you expect to pass
the coursed. Contact me via the Discussion Board or directly using the class
email system in GAView if you have questions.

V. ASSIGNMENTS, ASSESSMENT, AND EVALUATION:

Exams. Students will have 4 exams during the term. The tests are noncumulative,
weighted equally, and problem based. All tests are open book.
Exams 1, 2, and 3 exams will be administered using ProctorU. Test 4 is also open book and
will be administered using the Respondus Lockdown browser.
Each test has a 75 minute time limit and the time limit is enforced. That means that
answers submitted after the 75 minute test period will not be accepted and will not earn
credit. Be sure to save your answers before the test time limit expires!
Test dates.
Test 1: Chapter 10 opens on 9/11 at 5PM and closes at 11:30AM on 9/13. Test
given using ProctorU
Test 2: Chapter 11 Sections 11.1 and 11.2 and Chapter 12 Sections 12.1 and 12.3
opens on 10/9 at 5PM and closes at 11:30AM on 10/11. Test given using
ProctorU
Test 3: Chapter 14 opens on 11/6 at 5PM and closes at 11:30AM on 11/8. Test 3
will be given through ProctorU.
Test 4: Test 4 Chapter 15 opens on 12/4 at 5PM and closes at 11:30AM on 12/6.
Test given using Respondus Lockdown Browser.
Problems. Problems and exercises from each covered chapter are identified for you
to do. You should do problems from each section of the book that is assigned. The
solution manual chapters are posted for you to use. These are not graded but I
strongly urge you do as many problems as possible. Doing problems is the best way to
prepare for the exams because the tests are based on problems like those assigned.
Problems can be discussed with others in the class and you can contact the instructor
as well for help. I stress again that failing to do assigned problems will make it
difficult for you to pass the course. Statistics is a mathematics and numbers course.
You need to do problems to learn the material. Test questions are similar to the type
of problems that are assigned. Not doing problems will jeopardize your likelihood of

passing this course.

Grading
The four tests are each weighted at 25%. Your course grade is the average of the

four tests. There are no exceptions to this grading policy and there is NO extra

credit.

A 90% of total points

B 80% of total points

C 70% of total points

D 60% of total points

F Less than 60% of total points

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY POLICY:

The university registrar requires faculty to submit attendance information pursuant

to federal government regulations that apply to student financial aid. Since this is an
online class, this requirement is satisfied by signing in to the course at the D2L/VISTA
site. Under Discussions you will find a category named Sign In. Post a brief intro
when you sign in. NOTE: by signing in it is your acknowledgement that you have
read the syllabus, checked your computer to see that it meets the technical
specifications for on line classes, and are aware of all policies/rules/requirements
regarding this class.
POLICY ON LATE WORK and MAKEUP TESTS:
Make-up exams will only be given for legitimate medical and work reasons that are
supported by documentation. I must be informed as soon as possible (preferably before
the exam open period) that you are unable to take the test. If you miss a test and do not
have a legitimate medical/work reason for that, you can take a makeup exam but there will
be a 20 point deduction that will be applied. A missed exam must be taken within one week
of the test date, unless you are unable to take a makeup because of illness. In rare cases
where a technology problem occurs during an exam which prevents the student from
completing a test, a makeup without penalty may be given. Determining if a technology
problem has occurred will be based on the detailed test log that is compiled by ProctorU
during the test session. If the log does not note a technology problem, NO makeup exam
will be given. Note: Missing an exam because you forgot about it, are on vacation, or you
do not have internet access are NOT legitimate reasons warranting a makeup test without
the 20 point penalty being applied.
Late assignments NA
PARTICIPATION: Not applicable as per other assessments and assignments
POLICY CONCERNING EXTRA CREDIT: NO EXTRA CREDIT
HOMEWORK POLICY: see problems above
