Taking up Environmental Laws and Natural Resources (Nat Res) was interesting.
It introduced me to a number of laws and policies intending to curve environment
destruction which is now a common occurrence. One in-depth realization which I have acquired out of the course is that economic and social conditions may affect and compromise the values of humans towards the environment. This holds true specifically in cases where destitute unlawfully invades and exploits prohibited lands, or where unlawful settlers along the river banks pollute its waters. It is because of this which affirms my observation that socio-economic issues experienced by people bolster, as a contributing factor, the environmental issues in these present times. All of these actually made sense to me upon reading the cases, laws and other reading materials assigned to us. In this paper, I will limit my reflection as to why people resort to illegal environmental activities by reason of poverty. I agree that overtaking the curve of environmental destruction is not a rocket science it cannot be solved in a days work. To ensure the security of our future, there has to be a joint effort in the Judiciary, Legislature, and Executive branch of the government. The Judiciary shall provide well-informed avenues for the poor to seek redress in case of breach in the delivery of their rights or entitlements. The legislature shall draft laws which could make targeted reductions on various ecological and povertyrelated problems. Lastly, it is incumbent upon the Executive to make sure that all the policies and laws are executed lawfully, justly and without discrimination. These efforts can only be substituted with hard work.
