Technology is used just about everywhere around us every day. It is

impossible to escape it and teachers are starting to realize this, as well as
the importance of adapting the ever-changing technology into the classroom.
Janelle Cox from teachhub.com said, By embracing and integrating
technology in the classroom, we are setting our students up for a successful
life outside of school. (Cox, n.d.)
When students get out of school and enter the work force they will find
that all jobs have at least some component of technology. Even minimum
wage jobs like working the counter at a fast food establishment requires
some knowledge of technology. Many jobs and careers that used to be
strictly pen and paper, such as lawyers and journalists, have seen the
benefits of technology in their fields and have already begun moving in the
digital and technological direction along with society. The students that learn
the skills to operate technology while they are young will have the upper
hand when it comes time to find a job in the technological world we live in.
Students who receive the necessary technological skills in school will
also be better prepared for college, should they choose to attend. Many
college classes are at least in part online, and students who know how to
navigate the web will be that much more prepared. Plus just about every
paper they write will have to be typed on a computer and turned in online to
turnitin.com or a site like it.

Not only is teaching with technology important for the students future,
but it is important for the students in the present as well. Integrating
technology into the subjects and lessons that the students may not normally
find interesting adds a fun element that boosts motivation and interest.
When students are motivated and interested in what they are studying their
retention rate goes up. Also, using technology in the classroom can teach
students to solve complex problems and can connect them with each other,
as well as the world around them.
Technology in the classroom also allows the students to be creative
and approach learning from a different angle. It allows the students to learn
the way that is best for them and at the speed that best suits them.
Kinesthetic learners can play hands-on games that teach them the material.
Auditory learners can listen to text and information read aloud and discussed
in podcasts, tedtalks, and many other venues. Visual learners can watch
presentations over the material as well as create their own presentations. All
this learning can be self-paced for each student.
Using technology in the classroom is not only beneficial for the
students, but for the teacher as well. There are many apps and websites that
allow teachers to test students knowledge on a subject through games and
races. The students have so much fun competing with each other and
playing the game that they often do not realize that they are being tested at
all. There are also apps and websites that help the students practice the

material, and many of these apps and websites can be modified to students
specific needs.
Lastly, technology is not subject specific and can be used in any and all
subjects. It can be integrated into any classroom and used to teach any
subject. There are many apps and websites available to assist in teaching
Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Government, Economics, and any
other subject that is in the standard curriculum for K-12 education.
