I.
BACKGROUND
The Industrial Engineering is a part of engineering science which can be
defined as the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural
sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to
develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the
benefit of mankind. Unlike other engineering disciplines which more likely
product oriented, Industrial Engineering has deeper orientation in constructing the
process. It usually called process oriented. Moreover, it would be related with the
process created in order to repair the whole performance of a system which can be
considered by some sides, such as economy, quality assessment, impact toward
environment, and how all of those things giving benefit to human life.
The description about engineering has already been acquired by students
through courses and information during college. To raise the skillful of students,
this implicit knowledge should be transformed into experiences or practical
substance. Then it will be externalized become the explicit knowledge to get
enrolled the whole process of knowledge management.
Industrial Engineering Department, Faculty of Industrial Technology
Islamic University of Indonesia, realizes about the importance of integrating both
theoretical and practical substances. Hence, an internship is held as a program
which combines academic skills with career-related work experience to form a
link-and-match education program between formal education and real-world
problem.
II.
OBJECTIVES
For Student:
To gain experiences in a real work life all at once and to extend the student
perspectives about real work life.
For Company:
III.
FORM OF PROGRAM
The recommended approaching forms are:
Case Study
The case study here means that student tries to search and to observe a
problem inside the company, to identify the problem, then to analyze it in its
relation with theoretical knowledge obtained during college and literature study as
well.
Problem Solving
It is done by doing analysis through the problem emerged in the company,
determining some alternatives, and select the most optimum alternative based on
the problem with reasonable and logical consideration.

CLOSING
In educational field, the balance between theoretical sciences and direct
implementation in a real work is absolutely needed. If deeper theoretical science is
not followed by implementation in the real work, it would be useless. Therefore,
as students of Industrial Engineering Department Universitas Islam Indonesia, we
expect a warm cooperation and guidance from PDAM, Tbkin completing the
Internship Program. The best effort will be driven with all our capability to do this
Internship Program. Thank you for your kind attention.
