How to check, clean and replace Toner Bottle Position Sensor

<Check>
1. Access the Service mode, then State Confirmation -> Sensor check.
2. Enter Code 57 and Multi code 3.
3. Remove and install the bottle tray and check the result display.
Pull out and put in the bottle tray at the home position.
Result display
When pulling out: 0
When putting in: 0
If 1 is displayed during this check, the
sensor detects wrongly.

Pull out and put in the bottle tray at slightly moved position.
Pull out the tray and rotate the bottle
half or quarter way clockwise.

Result display
When pulling out: 0
When putting in: 1
If the display does not switch from 0 to 1
and remains 0 or 1 during this check, the
sensor detects wrongly.

<Cleaning and replacement>

If detection error was seen by the sensor operation check, clean or replace the sensor by the procedure below.
* Remove the toner bottle beforehand.
(1) Remove the rear cover.

It is preferable to remove also the drum cartridge and the developing unit.
(2) Remove the control board unit.

(3) Remove the motor and flywheel.

(4) Remove the toner supply unit.

* Clean the metal that holds the bottle tray and the bottle tray surface before cleaning the sensor.
(5) Check the sensor installation condition.

If the sensor is not stable and interferes with the plastic

part while pulling out/putting in the bottle tray, replace the
sensor.

<> Clean the sensor.

With the condition above, insert the nozzle of a commercially available air blower (used for OA equipments) in the sensor
reception side (other side of the sensor in the photo).

Blow away the toner.

With this state, install the control board unit (not fix it with screws, just hook the upper part and connect the connector).
Enter the service mode and perform the sensor check.

If the sensor operates correctly, reinstall the parts.

If the sensor does not operate correctly after cleaning, replace the sensor.
<> Replace the sensor.
Remove the finisher, paper exit tray and other.

Remove the front cover and other plastic parts.

Remove the write unit top plate and the fusing fan installation metal.
It is preferable to remove also the fusing unit,
though it is possible to remove the parts just
by removing a screw and making the unit
loose.

When reinstalling the unit, press the unit

against the right side of this photo and tighten
the screw. (to avoid no loose of the unit)

Remove the sensor assembly and replace the sensor.

After replacement, perform the sensor check.
