PERSONAL STATEMENT

My name is Supartina Hakim, from Indonesia. I have graduated from Bachelors

degree of Physiotherapy at Medical Faculty of Hasanuddin University Makassar Indonesia.
This letter aims to apply and to state my motivation for entering the Master Of Physiotherapy
in Cardiff University.
I finished my Bachelor of

Physiotherapy at Medical Faculty of Hasanuddin

University Makassar Indonesia in 2014. I stepped up to Clinical Clerkship for one and half
years in several health institutions. Using physiotherapy knowledge and technique which I
have learned to treat patients and seeing patients improvement in movements was my
personal pleasure. These reasons made me enjoying my clinical clerkship period. Working
together as a team with my friends and other health profession in partnership was a great
experience. It enriched my knowledge and technique on treating patient through discussion
and teamwork about problems and evidences that we found in our clinical clerkships. I also
have built communication skill when i interacted with patient. I gained skills that i could not
got in academic education through clinical clerkship. I have finished my clinical clerkships
and got my professional degree in 2015. Finally, I started my career as physiotherapist since
then.
During as a physiotherapist, I sometimes find myself could not help patient
effectively and efficiently. I realized that my knowledge and technique still not enough to
apprehend disease that I found. Therefore, I interested to continue my study overseas. I am
aware that the education in my country is not enough to improve my knowledge which need
higher level than undergraduate program since the highest physiotherapy education in
Indonesia is Bachelor of Physiotherapy. The facts that the concept, knowledge, and
technology in other countries are more advanced both in system and applied science than
Indonesia. These facts motivated me to continue my Master education to become a better
professional physiotherapist.
After researching and assessing through Internet, I found that Cardiff University is the
best physiotherapy school in United Kingdom which is ranked number one in the UK, by
both the Complete University Guide and the Times Good University Guide 2014, 2015 and
2016. Cardiff University is highly recommended to continue our physiotherapy study because
of its professional recognition and commitment in research as well as its location as capital
city of Wales which is popular with its greenery and beautiful architecture. It is my dream to
continue my study in the best physiotherapy institution learning about the recent knowledge

and technology because I have plan on solving health problems related to my passion in my
hometown and being a good lecturer to transfer knowledge for my future pupils.
I do fascinate with the modules in Cardiff University. The most of the modules basic
principles have been learned in Hasanuddin University and have correlation with cases in
Indonesia. Not only recent physiotherapy education, but also professional skills such as
health services and transforming care and systems are also taught in Cardiff in order to build
professional physiotherapist with leadership and problem-solving focus. Therefore, I believe
studying in Cardiff is the best choice to improve my knowledge and professionalism which
could support my career in the future.
The cases related to cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, and neurological are the most
cases occurred in Indonesia. Therefore, I am aware that basic principle and treatment are not
enough to give effective therapeutic effects for patients. I have to continue my study on
Master of Physiotherapy as my resolution to become a professional health practitioner. I
expect to expand my knowledge about the specialized areas of study and to improve my skill
in physiotherapy treatment which is patient centered care. I believe with my passion and hard
work as physiotherapist I could achieve it because I have faced the similar situation in my
bachelor period.
My resolution is not only professional physiotherapist but also educator. Education
level of physiotherapy in Indonesia needs to be improved with many physiotherapist of
Indonesia continuing their study on Master. I believe with Cardiff Universitys reputation and
commitment in assisting their students to confer eligibility as Advanced Practitioners through
extension of knowledge, practical skill, and treatment strategies based on evidence, I could
achieve my dream. I have decided to submit my application for Cardiff University for
Physiotherapy (MSc) which is my desire to study in one of the best universities in the world
related to my passion in physiotherapy. My ambition is improving my knowledge and skill in
physiotherapy so that I will give positive contribution for betterment of the nation, especially
in the field of Physiotherapy education and system in Indonesia. I will return to my country to
increase Indonesia Health and public productivity especially in movement health. Please
allow me to have a chance and take my education and career to be a better physiotherapis.
