Evaluation / Reflection
Many of the students were quite bored with the discussion before shared reading.
They were not at all interested in pointing out descriptive noun groups. An
alternative may be to copy a page and get students to highlight words in question
next time.
It was hard to keep track of how many students actually got to read during our
shared reading, so I could use the paddle pop sticks to keep a track of this.
We could only complete the orientation part of the organiser, but I think it was
useful to not only recap how the story began, but also to find out the different
perspectives of the characters traits.
Orientation (How does the novel begin? How does it establish the characters and events?)
2.
Complication (What is the conflict? Why does it occur? How could it be resolved?)
3.
Climax (What is the highest point of tension? What kinds of language features are used to
make the climax exciting?)
4.
Resolution (How is the complication resolved? What happens after the complication is
resolved?)
