Reflective Writing
During this semester I have identified different career fields that interest my
personality. Throughout the personality tests and strong interest inventory profiles
Ive noticed that I scored very high in risk taking and team orientation in terms of
my personal preferences. This comes a surprise to me, but as I read the various
activities for risk takers I noticed that I make very quick and hasty, decisions when it
comes risk reward actions. In the Strong Interest Inventory Profile, I also came
across my personality level in terms occupations. In the report I scored very in
conventional, enterprising, and realistic categories suggesting that I can excel in
business-like, computational, and mathematically oriented jobs. In respect to my
personality, it is justifiable that my interests align with the values as well as my
work activities when choosing a career field. When taking the Type Focus
assessment, my personality aligned very much with the strong interest profile. This
helped me understand that my personality is very much based around logical work,
and that it is flexible in terms of various interdisciplinary occupations.
These self-assessment tests have helped me to learn that structured
organizations with a planned future is exactly what I would be successful in thriving
within. On the Type Focus assessment, my major and career choices were very
similar with many occupations revolving around mathematical, business-like, and
logical jobs. Couple of careers that stood out to me were dentistry, pharmacist,
purchasing agent, as well as stockbroker. In terms of majors to study, I thought
agricultural business and economics, communication, political science, public
relations, as well as health services administration were the ones that I never
considered studying in college. I believe that self-assessment is a great way to
discover ones personality and how it would fit within a type of occupation. These
studies are very helpful and provide another point of view as well as give insight to
occupations that best fit ones work preference. Besides using the interest profiles
and personality assessments I have taken the initiative to research various careers
on the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. This has been a great source in
predicting the job outlooks as well as if the occupation is supposed to grow within
the future. This website also gives a brief description on entry-level requirements for
jobs, the number of jobs, work environment, as well as what a typical day is like in
respect to the job. I have really found this resource as a huge help with selecting an
appropriate major.
