GREEN ENERGY

ENERGY
Energy defined
Sources of energy is origins of the power used for transportation, for heat and light in
dwelling and working areas, and for the manufacture of goods of all kinds, among other
applications. The development of science and civilization is closely linked to the availability
of energy in useful forms. Modern society consumes vast amounts of energy in all forms about
light, heat, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and nuclear. The rate at which energy is produced or
consumed is called power, although this term is sometimes used in common speech
synonymously with energy.

GREEEN ENERGY
Green energy defined
Green energy is a energy that produced in such a way as to minimize its negative impact
on the environment. Green energy comes from natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides,
plants, algae and geothermal heat. These energy resources are renewable, meaning they are
naturally replenished. Renewable energy sources also have a much smaller impact on the
environment than fossil fuels, which produce pollutants such as green house gases as a by
product, contributing to climate change. Advances in renewable energy technologies have
lowered the cost of solar panels, wind turbines and other sources of green energy, placing the
ability to produce electricity in the hands of the people rather than those of oil, gas, coal and
utility companies. Green energy can replace fossil fuels in all major areas of use including
electricity, water and space heating and fuel for motor vehicles.

Types Of Sources Energy

Types Of Green Energy

Solar Energy
The most prevalent type of renewable energy, solar power is typically produced using
photovoltaic cells, which capture sunlight and turn it into electricity. Solar energy is also used to
heat buildings and water, provide natural lighting and cook food. Solar technologies have
become inexpensive enough to power everything from small hand-held gadgets to entire
neighborhoods. Solar power does not produce any emissions, is renewable, and is highly suitable
for powering portable devices as well as homes. Many new homes take solar energy generation
into consideration as a design concept, with solar panels and water-heating systems. While the
goal of solar-powered transport has not yet been achieved, the panels can be employed in
vehicles as a source of power for air conditioning.

Wind Energy
Wind is used to generate energy with large turbines connected to a power collection,
storage, and distribution system. This type of energy generation is a highly effective method of
providing electricity to small, isolated communities. They are often preferred over solar-powered
methods in agricultural areas, because land which contains wind turbines is more easily able to
be used for other purposes. Air flow on the earth's surface can be used to push turbines, with
stronger winds producing more energy. High-altitude sites and areas just offshore

tend to

provide the best conditions for capturing the strongest winds. Off-shore wind farms have much
higher building and maintenance costs, but they are able to harness stronger, more consistent
winds.

Hydro Energy
Hydro Energy is generated by the earth's water cycle, including evaporation, rainfall,
tides and the force of water running through a dam. Hydro energy depends on high precipitation
levels to produce significant amounts of energy. This technology uses the movement of water to
power turbines attached to generators, and many countries, it provides a larger proportion of
energy than any other green resource. Hydro energy does not produce a significant amount of
waste and provides a unique environmental advantage. Many of the largest hydroelectric damns
make use of a reservoir, which can serve as a location for recreational activities. The presence of
a large water supply can also provide valuable support for agricultural regions.

Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is generated by the earth underneath its surface in the form of heat.
While it is not technically a renewable source, it is sustainable more or less indefinitely, and
produces only a small amount of waste in comparison to fossil fuels. Many countries use this
type of energy for a portion of their requirements, but most thermal energy plants are located
near tectonic plate boundaries, where the energy can be extracted more easily. The potential of
geothermal energy to supply a significant portion of the world is limited by the expense of the
technology it requires.

Biomass Energy
Biomass Energy is a fancy name for material from plants and animals. Some kinds of
biomass can be burned to produce energy. One common example is wood. Biomass contains
stored energy. That's because plants absorb energy from the sun through the process of
photosynthesis. When biomass is burned, this stored energy is released as heat.
Burning biomass releases carbon dioxide. However, plants also take carbon dioxide out
of the atmosphere and use it to grow their leaves, flowers, branches, and stems. That same
carbon dioxide is returned to the air when the plants are burned.
Many different kinds of biomass, such as wood chips, corn, and some types of garbage,
are used to produce electricity. Some types of biomass can be converted into liquid fuels called

biofuels that can power cars, trucks, and tractors. Leftover food products like vegetable oils and
animal fats can create biodiesel, while corn, sugarcane, and other plants can be fermented to
produce ethanol.

Biofuel Energy
Corn can be harvested to produce ethanol. The two most common types of biofuels are
ethanol and biodiesel.
Ethanol is an alcohol, the same found in beer and wine. It is made by fermenting any
biomass high in carbohydrates (starches, sugars, or celluloses) through a process similar to
brewing beer. Ethanol is mostly used as a fuel additive to cut down a vehicle's carbon monoxide
and other smog-causing emissions.
Biodiesel is made by combining alcohol usually methanol with vegetable oil, animal fat,
or recycled cooking greases. It can be used as an additive to reduce vehicle emissions or in its
pure form as a renewable alternative fuel for diesel engines.

Other biofuels include methanol and reformulated gasoline components. Methanol,

commonly called wood alcohol, is currently produced from natural gas, but could also be
produced from biomass. There are a number of ways to convert biomass to methanol.

Advantages Of Green Energy

Saving of electricity cost

Can reduce our dependence on fuels and energy from foreign governments
Can provide a vast and constant energy resource supply.
It is clean and results in little to no greenhouse and net carbon emissions.
To protect the environment from toxic pollutions,
Reliable energy source which is distributed over large geographical area and weather
disruptions in one area.

Disadvantages Of Green Energy

Cost are more expensive

Depending on the weather to sources of supply
Difficult to generate in large quantity which is large amount of energy as those produced
by coal powered plants.

Conclusion
All energy sources have an impact on the environment. Concerns about the greenhouse
effect and global warming, air pollution, and energy security have led to increasing interest
and more development in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal,
hydropower, biomass and biofuels. But we'll need to continue to use fossil fuels and nuclear
energy until new, cleaner technologies can replace them. In renewable energy have few
advantage and disadvantages. So its time for us to think whether renewable energy can really
improve our environment and we should keep developing the renewable energy or not.
Although there are disadvantages in renewable energy, it really gives help to our
environment. In short term, its disadvantages seem to outweigh its advantages. For example,
installing solar panels requires a large piece of land, but the power it can generate is not that
much. However, we should be long-sighted. As we are facing serious problems like global
warming and energy crisis, we have to do something or make some changes in our daily lives for
the sake of solving the above problems. Renewable energy is undoubtedly a solution to those
problems in the long run. It is sustainable and non-polluting.
So, we have to put effort in changing our usual life style, and of course, spend more
money, to rectifying the mistakes that we have made. That means we have to keep investing and
developing renewable energy. Fortunately, thanks to the respectable scientists and engineers, the
situation has improved a lot. For instant, the efficiency of solar energy is increasing. We believe
that in the foreseeable future, use of renewable energy for generating power can rise to fifty
percent of the overall power generation, or even more. The future is ours, but we need energy to
get there.
