Mandate of Heaven The power given from the divine gods to their

The last dynasty of Imperial China, the Qing, came from Manchuria, to the
north east of China
The Ming dynasty collapsed in 1644. They made many cultural
achievements, and were inefficient and weak. The powerful Manchu army
took advantage of this and moved south to take Beijing. They moved into
the emperors palace, the Forbidden City, and called their new dynasty
Qing, meaning pure
The Manchus were always considered outsiders by the majority Han
Chinese population. Manchus only every made up 2 percent of the
population
The Han were made to show their submission to the new dynasty y
shaving the front of their head and wearing their hair in long plaits.
Marriage between Han and Manchu was forbidden. The Manchu nobility
took the best land and were a privileged group
