The scope of this thesis is limited to the hardware and software design of the whole system, and the implementation of part of it. As mentioned before, there are two sub-systems that make up the outdoor smart parking management system, i.e. the local system and the remote system. For the purpose of this thesis, the local system and a small part of the remote system will be implemented. This entails building the wireless sensor network, implementing the local server database, and displaying parking information on the display panels. The thesis is limited by two main factors:
Time: The system must be designed and implemented by the 16th of October, 2014, together with the thesis report.
Cost and Hardware availability:
Some of the hardware meant to be used in the real implementation cannot be acquired due to monetary constraints. Therefore substitute hardware has to be acquired to prove the concept of the design. Some of the hardware that cannot be acquired includes the sensing nodes and roadside display panels. These are to be substituted by sensor emulators and small display screens, respectively. The rest of the hardware is obtainable
