ABSTRACT

Load frequency control plays an important role in power generation. The most important mode
of operation of a power system is symmetrical steady state mode. Due to the fluctuations in the
system frequency the system runs out of synchronism .This leads the system to transient mode of
operation. This work deals with a novel method of quenching transients of load frequency
of a Two area power system. It deals with an adaptive fuzzy logic control approach for
designing a decentralized controller for load frequency control of interconnected power areas.
The proposed adaptive fuzzy logic load frequency controller (AFLFC) has been designed to
improve the dynamic performance of the frequency and the tie line power flow under a sudden
load change in the power areas. The AFLFC replaces the original conventional integral controller
and utilizes the same area error input. Time-domain simulations using MATLAB/SIMULINK
has been performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed AFLFC.
Here the comparison between conventional integral controller, conventional fuzzy
controller genetic algorithm and adaptive fuzzy logic controller has been done. The simulation
results show that the proposed AFLFC provides good damping and reduces the overshoot of the
different area frequency deviations and also reduces the interchanged tie power.
