Dear Professor Bell:
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you. As a Public Relations Major at the
University of Rhode Island, I am particularly interested in pursuing a career within the realm of
this intriguing industry. I would like to pursue crisis management or event planning within the
entertainment or fashion industry. I like the idea of crisis management because it is hectic and
fast paced and challenges you to think on your feet. You would never know what problems are
going to arise that day which would keep the job interesting at all times. I also like the concept of
event planning because it would be interesting to research tactics to come up with the best events
and involve local communities and to make sure you successfully run the event as well as
successfully coerce the organization, media and the public to interact.
My research of this career revealed that there are many different aspects of the PR industry and it
would be interesting to work my way around them. Public Relations is a very hectic and fast
paced job that constantly keeps you on your toes which is a really important aspect for me. PR is
about managing reputation and relationships. This includes being accurate and trustworthy to
clients, as well as always researching information and talking with the media. PR uses many
different strategies of media and communication to reach out to clients and the public. I am
confident in my time management skills and my social media skills, plus my ability to write and
research. I work very well under pressure and fully immerse myself with my tasks before
completing them. I have not had any internship experience in PR yet but am hoping to get one
next summer in New York City in either fashion or entertainment. I am also planning to study
abroad in Florence, Italy this coming spring. I have been really interested in PR since I graduated
high school and started looking for majors. What definitely stuck out to me was that it is a
writing field that highly involves business which is exactly what I wanted. I also like that you
have the ability to move around in PR and try many different aspects of the career.

I am looking forward to my future career in Public Relations. For now, I aim to contribute to this
learning environment by gaining experience and knowledge of PR and sharing them with my
classroom.
Sincerely,

Katie Tassi
