Tell students we will be moving on to a new topic
today, now that we have completed our flags.
We are going to start today by completing a group
activity.
Split the class into groups of 3 using the popsicle
sticks.
Have them go sit with their group.
Give instructions. When students sit with their
group, they will receive a bundle of strips of
paper. Each one has an emotion on it. They need
to put the emotion statements under the heading
Feelings that make us happy and Feelings that
make us sad.
With your group, put them in each heading and
then categorize them from most important to
least important.
Review how to categorize the items (1 =most
imp 5 = least imp.)
Model: Do the first one together.

make him feel (happy or sad) and how they
affect his quality of life.

Think/pair/share.
- How is the characters life different or the
same from our own lives? Think/Pair/Share.
Explain that we will be learning about the quality
of life of the kids in each of the four countries. But
it is important to remember that quality of life is
not determined by having things that we want,
like video games or Ipads.
