Writing a chapter

summary
A chapter summary is a useful way to condense information from a book,
usually so that you can easily locate main ideas and topics when you revise
ahead of assessment.
A book chapter can be quite short (a couple of pages) or quite long (twenty or
thirty pages), depending on how much depth and detail the author has gone
into.
The first chapter of Blaineys book, A flaming sunrise, acts as an introduction
to the books primary focus the twentieth century. Id like you to write your
own summary of this chapter in order to create for yourself a brief portrait of
life and society at the start of the twentieth century.
Chapter summaries DO NOT go into great amounts of detail you can refer
back to the book itself, or more comprehensive notes, if you need the dates,
people and events.
Chapter summaries DO include the authors main intention (or contention) in
writing. Why did Blainey choose to include A flaming sunrise in his book?
Why did he put it first?
If a chapter has sub-headings, try and incorporate these into your summary.
One technique is to write a sentence related to each sub-heading. It doesnt
matter too much if you make generalisations here, although usually we try to
avoid generalisations in history.
Your chapter summary should not exclude 350 words if it does, see if you
can cut down or condense some of your information.
