Sunday, November 13, 2016 - Twenty-sixth Sunday After Pentecost

A PEEK AT THE SUNDAY SERMON

The United Church of Christ official church calendar has listed Sunday, November 13th
as Stewardship Sunday its also (according to the calendar) a Sunday of Infinite
Possibilities. Amen! With this in mind, Ill be sharing a message titled Whats In
Your Hand? The sermon deals with the infinite possibilities when you are a
follower of Jesus Christ. Ill be using Exodus 4:1-8 as my sermon text it begins like
this:
But Moses protested again, What if they wont believe me or listen to me? What if they say,
The LORD never appeared to you? 2 Then the LORD asked him, What is that in your hand? A
shepherds staff, Moses replied. 3 Throw it down on the ground, the LORD told him. So Moses
threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake!

In this Scripture Lesson, we will learn that God can work miracles in spite of us! And
yet, God would much rather use people to do his work. Arent you glad? I certainly am
and Ill tell you why on Sunday!

Jesus and the Temple Luke 21:5-19

This is the suggested daily Bible reading for Sunday, November 13th (2016 U.C.C.
Calendar) Jesus had something to say about the Jerusalem Temple.

Some of his disciples

began talking about the
majestic stonework of the
Temple and the memorial
decorations on the walls.
5

But Jesus said, 6 The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished. Not one stone will
be left on top of another! 7 Teacher, they asked, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that
these things are about to take place? 8 He replied, Dont let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my
name, claiming, I am the Messiah, and saying, The time has come! But dont believe them. 9 And when you
hear of wars and insurrections, dont panic. Yes, these things must take place first, but the end wont follow
immediately. 10 Then he added, Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There
will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying
things and great miraculous signs from heaven.
12 But

before all this occurs, there will be a time of great persecution. You will be dragged into synagogues
and prisons, and you will stand trial before kings and governors because you are my followers. 13 But this will
be your opportunity to tell them about me. 14 So dont worry in advance about how to answer the charges
against you, 15 for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to
reply or refute you! 16 Even those closest to youyour parents, brothers, relatives, and friendswill betray
you. They will even kill some of you. 17 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. 18 But not a
hair of your head will perish! 19 By standing firm, you will win your souls.

Paraments and altar linens remain GREEN.

Green
symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of living
things and the promise of new life.

Invocation Given at Inter-Service Club Council of Dearborn Event

On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Pastor Kren represented Dearborn Congregational
Church at the ISCC of Dearborn 55th - Annual Thanks for Giving Luncheon, held
at Park Place Banquet Hall. The Inter-Service Club Council of Dearborn is an
association of service clubs that coordinate their volunteer efforts to make Dearborn a
better place to live. Members include the American Association of University Women,
Dearborn Optimist, Exchange Club of Dearborn, Fairlane Sunrise Rotary Club, Garden
Club, Kiwanis Club of Dearborn and Dearborn Outer Drive, League of Women Voters
and Rotary Club of Dearborn. Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad had a special
message for the group praising their volunteer efforts in the community. The Pastor
was on the program for the Invocation. Here is his prayer:
Eternal Father of us all, we come together as members of the Inter-Service Club
Council a grateful people. We are grateful for the life that You have given to each
one of us; grateful for the high aspiration of world brotherhood which is our
challenge in work, worship and this fellowship; grateful that we might, as members of
service clubs and organizations in Dearborn, employ all that we are in service to our
fellow man; and we are eternally grateful for this free land in which we live, and for
the faith of our fathers whose vision is both our heritage and our hope.
Gracious Lord, across our great nation votes have been counted, and we have
elected the 45th President of the United States. Grant that he may be enabled by
your powerful protection to lead our country with honesty and integrity.
Finally, Lord, we are grateful opportunities, such as this, for fellowship and
celebration. For all these, we offer You our thanks and ask for your blessings as we
share these moments at our table as your people. Amen.

I hope this newsletter found you well and blessed.

Pastor Bill
