definition of society is widely recognized and paved way for various
Sociologist to propose varied views about society, some of these Sociologist
are: Karl Marx, Gerhard Lenski, Max Weber and Emile Durkheim. Their views
are now literary recognized and noted in the study of Sociology.
Karl Marx who cemented the concept of Social-Conflict Theory as one
of the Sociological theories, he emphasized on the matter that it is the
economy that forms the society. He dwelled with the concept of materialism
which says that it is how humans produce material goods shapes their
experiences. While for Gerhard Lenski, his argument focuses on the principle

that it is the technology that changes the society. Technology serves as a

knowledge that people use to make a way of life in their surroundings. It is

to five (5) types and it is through his view that sociocultural evolution-- which
introduces the idea that changes occur as the society gains knowledge- was
developed. On the other hand, Max Weber also has his own view of the
society. His perception about the society focuses more on the concept of
idealism which emphasized on how human ideas like beliefs and values
shape the society. He argued that the differences present in the society is
brought about by how people perceive or think the world. Lastly, Emile
Durkheim, known for his study about suicide, also has his own view about the
society. His view emphasized on the idea that it is the society that shapes the
people and that society exist beyond ourselves.
