2-3 LESSON PLAN

This lesson plan is designed to last for 4-5 days


Developmental Level: 2
Lesson Focus: Throwing
Alabama Course of Study Standards: 2:4 2:5 3:3
Objectives:

To throw
To throw hard
To hit large/small targets

Equipment:
Various things to throw (balls, beanbags, scarves, etc), containers (hula-hoops, buckets, etc), cones
Introductory Activity (2-3 minutes daily): If students become bored with the introductory activity an
alternate activity can be substituted.
Name of activity: Grab and toss
Description: The students will each have a scarf. They will hold the scarf and toss it in the air. They will
then grab/catch the scarf as it comes down. They will repeat until the music stops.

Fitness Development (5-7 minutes daily):


Activity Name: Rock Paper Scissors
Preparation:
Rules: The students will start at one end of the gym. They will find a partner and play rock paper scissors.
The one who loses finds another partner to play. The one who wins the game runs to the middle of the
gym and find another partner to play. If they lose there they go back to the beginning, but if they win they
go to the farthest end of the gym and repeat finding a partner and playing.

Skill Set 2: Freezamania Throw and Catch
Organization: Scattered formation one ball for every two children

The students partner up with a ball


When the music starts the students start to throw and catch the ball back and forth
When the music stops, the person who is holding the ball chases after the one without it.
When the music starts again, the partners stop running and start throwing and catching
again.

Skill Set 3: target throw


Organization: Teams of 5-6 people in a line as a relay

Students will line up in a line.


They will run to a line a through the ball through the hoop
They will try to make the ball bounce back to them off the wall and catch it
They will then run back and hand the ball off to the next person

Skill Set 4: Throwing Basketball


Organization: Teams of 5-6 people in a line as a relay. Tape will be down close to the target. The farther
back the more the points (1-3)

Student will line up in a line


One at a time they will run to a line of their choosing
They will throw the ball at the target on the wall
When it bounces back to them they will catch it
They will run the ball back to their line and hand it to the next one in line
They will keep up with their own points.

Culminating activity (5-7 minutes daily for advanced classes): fun activity/game to enhance daily
instruction or reward appropriate behavior. If the students become bored with this game an alternate
activity can be substituted.
Name of activity: The Lorax
Supplies: bottles yarn balls dots
Description: Divide students into 2 teams and place on each side of the gym. Every student starts with a
truffula fruit-yarn ball. The object of the game is to chop down the other teams trees before they chop
down yours. (Throwing the balls at the bottles.) If a student catches a truffula fruit they may plant a tree(put a bottle back up.) Students may not pick up a tree that is accidentally knocked over by a students
foot or body. When a team gets all the trees down on one side, they sit down and shout"The Lorax
