students who entered the 2017competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Superintendent Mary Kamerzell shared the following student achievements. Catalina Foothills High School Brooks Fail, senior swimmer, set a new meet record in the 200 Free with a time of1:40.78 at the High School Classic Swim and Dive Invitational at the U of A on October 1. He also won the 500 Free. CFHS also won the men's 400 Free Relay with swimmers Brooks Fail, Jack Hadley, Sam Mulay, and Scott Pekarske (3:15.86). The CFHS Speech & Debate Team took 2nd place overall at the Red Mountain Lost Dutchman Invitational Tournament on October 7-8. The Foothills Falcon Band received an excellent
rating at the Canyon Del Oro Invitational on October 8th. They won all available caption awards including awards for outstanding musical performance, outstanding general effect, outstanding visual performance, outstanding percussion and outstanding auxiliary. The Band was also one of only two bands out of over 40 schools that received the rating of "Superior with Distinction" at the U of A Band Day on October 15. Approval of 2017-2018 Calendar Assistant Superintendent Denise Bartlett reviewed the 2017-2018 school calendar. This calendar was preliminarily approved by the board in November 2015. Highlights include August 10 for the first day of school; parent-teacher conference days the week of October 9-13; no school on Friday, November 10; a Winter Break that includes three weekends; Spring Break on April 2-6. The full calendar can be accessed on the districts website (CFSD16.org). The governing board approved the 2017-2018 school calendar as presented. Initial Review of 2018-2019 Calendar Dr. Bartlett presented the preliminary 2018-2019 school calendar. The draft is very similar to the 20172018 calendar to includes 90-day semesters. Highlights include a new teachers report date of July 30; August 9 for the first day of school; parent-teacher conference days the week of October 8-12; no school on Monday, November 12; a Winter Break that includes three weekends; Spring Break on April 1-5. Board members discussed possible revisions and requested additional information. A second reading of this calendar will be on the November 21, 2016, board agenda. Report on CFSD Climate Study Survey Dr. Bartlett presented the Climate Survey results for board discussion. She reviewed the definition of climate and its connection to school effectiveness. The
Questionnaire (OCDQ), has been tested for validity and reliability. The OCDQ measures have differentiated questionnaires for each level about Principal Behaviors, and Elementary, Middle School, and High School Teacher Behaviors. The OCDQ results indicate the degree of principal and teacher openness correlated to the overall school openness rating. The survey results for CFSD can be accessed on the district website under Governing Board for the November 8 meeting. Dr. Bartlett also reviewed next steps and the benefits of assessing climate.
