Central Sensitization
Introduction
My name is Kyle Stringham
Dr. Eric Santiago
Central Sensitization
Independent Study Mentorship- Fall 2016
Mrs.Click
What is ISM?
ISM is the Independent Study Mentorship class here at Clear Springs High
School. It allows for students to be able to shadow and gain experience from
a mentor of his or her field of interest.
Over the course of a semester, we are required to log 15 hours under our
mentor, deliver a midterm and final presentation, and create a tangible
product.
What is my topic?
My project topic is over Central Sensitization which is a Nervous system
deficiency.
I chose the topic because my mentor believe it to be an interesting yet very
educational subject.
Cause?
Where does this come from?
How do we know its from the Nervous System?
Is this genetic?
What the acute injuries lead to?
Symptoms?
What is the pain comparable to?
What is the severity?
Common Effects?
What can those affected do or tolerate?
What does the effect of this have on those surrounded such as family or
friends?
Give details on what we can tell through the sleep cycle of those affected.
Elaborate on what sleep can do to further the progression of the disease.
Tell on how the body will be receptive of pain.
Is It Curable?
Explain the uncertainty of where it comes from.
Has there been prior cases in which victims have overcome and seemingly
surpassed the disease?
Treatment?
Explain the effects and loop that doctors will insert victims in and the pain they
can suffer from Physical Therapy.
Give details upon the medication that can be prescribed.
The effects of the medication long term.
Give a scenario that a common victim of Central Sensitization would endure
when he or she seeked treatment.
Tangible Item
I will insert a demonstration of my product that will help summarize the key points
into a visual piece.
Conclusion
Central Sensitization is a disease that directly affects the nervous system. There
is no known cause or known cure and can only be treated by therapy or
medication.
Thank you!
I would like to thank my mentor for allowing me to shadow him over the course of
these past 9 weeks and I look forward to those that follow. Thank you to my
parents for giving birth to me, and my awesome ISM teacher.
