My comments
I am a white male and I knew this young man since he was seven years old. He was always careful, cautious and
aware of his surroundings. Deshon running across Bay Street to catch bus is a crazy statement when he was
already at the bus stop. How ridiculous is that? I shouldn't have to feel that way for no reason other than the fact
that he has dark skin! The prosecutors are trying to cover for the county cut and dry. The prosecutor story do
not make any dam since, I believe if it was a white boy the bus driver would have been in jail. I smell a racial
Trayvon investigation case due to Deshon skin color. I do not understand why this man is not in jail. If someone
just killed a person (no matter for what reason), they need to be arrested immediately. Justice needs be served.
Hell with a plaque or a bench. There should be a street name in his honor plus more. He was such a warm spirit
young man that impacted people of all ages in a positive way. His mother raised him up right.

We need to stress the importance of safety driving. These bus drivers are always speeding on local streets; This
is not a highway! There has been more than one death due to the neglegance of these bus drivers and it really has
to stop. Just knowing that these tragic incidents could have been prevented, these people would still be here
today!

I'm a middle school student. Just a few days ago my bus driver was driving recklessly running over curbs and
possibly speeding. On the school transportation site it says they will provide safe transportation. I don't feel it
was very safe riding that day. But it wasn't the first time either. Anyway on that bus ride she was driving so
recklessly that when she ran over the curb she made most the kids on the right side of the bus hit their heads on
the window, including me. One girl got a welt on her knee from hitting it on the mettle part of the seat. She was
driving this way because she could not handle the children on our bus. Many children got in trouble but she did
not get condo quenches for her actions which is not fair. Yes I know it may not be as bad as some incidents like
bus accidents. Although a bus accident could have happened from her actions. She got lucky. But like most
students on my bus I feel endangered on her bus ride.

Naomi Johnson, thank you for this petition; I'm very sorry for the loss of your son Deshon. What happened to
him was terrible and unnecessary; he did not deserve that. There are too many rude, dangerous driving bus
drivers who need to be held accountable. It's a shame how many of these drivers get a slap on the wrist for
reckless driving or total indifference to the safety and lives of others in and near their bus. The lady NJ Transit
bus driver who got only probation was a very rude person and abusive to some passengers at times; I know
because before me and my elderly mom got on the bus she was rude; that tells me that she had no regard for
passengers or their safety. All drivers who recklessly kill should be held accountable, especially, bus drivers who
are in charge of people's lives in and around their bus.

Because Deshon and Christie didn't deserve this and any of us could be next. My father was a bus driver and my
step=father. This is not acceptable. A bus can be a weapon, and this is what happened. They were murdered!

I AM A MOTHER, I FEEL SOME OF HER PAIN. THE 'SCALES' OF JUSTICE ARE EXTREMELY

Because this is injustice, in how this incident happened. Deshon did not deserve the type of justice. A lawsuit
should have been settled, and a man who murdered a son, is now free. It seems like the city is carless about its

This is important to me because justice had not been served and I am a parent. It is going on a year and the
political figure is not doing anything about these alarming killing. I am in so much disbelief how the political figure
is not acting on this case. I have been following this young man story from day one. I am an investigator and I am
going to trying to help this mother out. I do not know this woman but I share the same attachment and emotion
with her as a parent. No, parent should have to be treated like they are the criminal when the bus committed and
criminal act. He killed an innocent young man and he get to walk free. How sicken that is that this bus driver is
not held accountable for his action. This bus driver get to go back driving the bus and to his family. Deshon does
not get to go back to work or his mother. How can the bus driver sleep at night or live with him self.

Deshon Johnson was someone who I went to school with and knew personally. He was a beautiful person in and
out. There are others that have lost their loved ones due to these tragedies. Whatever I can do to help, I will.

Riding the bus with some drivers is very scary. Some drivers are reckless when driving and do not adhere to

Deshon was the homie, strictly. He was always a friendly face in my science class at Montclair High. The school
wasn't really run by cliches, so we messed well. He was an aspiring hip-hop artist, also into demonstrating martial
arts for the secular, non-combative portion of the regiment. I respected him for that and who he wasn't afraid to
be; himself. That was years ago even afterward, he was always at the QuickChek no matter what time of the
day; we'd ceremoniously dap each other, talk this and that. He'd always tell me and my boys about his new
work being an artist; the spirit he had was inconceivable. I was really upset to hear the news. It really dampened
my heart to know that he wouldn't be around town randomly. I enjoyed those small encounters. He was
definitely a stepping stone that always surprised me and shown me that despite what's going on in societies
changes; there's always a true homie with an upbeat demeanor and a heart of gold. Even though this accident
affected a lot of peoples lives; it's more than an accident. I'm sure the driver didn't intentionally mean for this to
happen but let's be real---Busses, NJ Transit and DeCamp alike, drive like mad-men up and down Bloomfield
Avenue with no regards to anyone standing in their path. Most of em won't stop for you anymore -- and that's
coming from someone who used to rely on such transportation primarily for daily use. The high-pressure nature
of the job isn't an excuse to tearing essentially a town apart on some scale. Everyone knew who he was,
everyone has probably chilled with him a few times in their life. The court system is entirely flawed considering
just reading this page alone you see another scenario but with the driver brought up on charges. Either way, like
all the other supporters; there has to be justice. Rest easy, my bruva D.

A friend of mind knew Deshon Johnson and after hearing about the incident and read this petition, I felt the need
to contribute to the cause. From what I was told, he was a very caring and great person and although I did not
know him well, I am sad that he is gone and was forced to leave this Earth that way.

Bus drivers need to come to the needs of people that there picking up. Also bus drivers constantly just leave and
drive pass people like they dont care. people have jobs, places and schools they have to come to. also bus

This terrible accident. its sad and unfortunate that this happen. i live very close to where the accident happened
and i shocked me. I always notice that nj transit bus drivers not only in bloomfield but in other areas drive
extremely to fast and dont pay enough attention to there surroundings. if that bus driver wasent so quick to just
get the job done this young man would still be alive. this breaks my heart knowing that this young black man who
was smart, creative and destined to be great had his life snatched from him for someone else stupidity. i continue
to pray for his mother and family and friends <3

I am senior citizen who sometimes have to ride public transportation. I sympathize with this young man's family
and friends in his tragic loss. Why this driver is not being held responsible for killing Deshon Johnson is beyond

I visit NY NY and Jersey City NJ a few times a year. We need safe operators to haul Passengers. Last Oct. 31
11 Megabus from Pittsburgh went far to fast between Pittsburgh Pa and NY NY in major snow ice strorm.

My name is Jennifatu. I met Deshon through my friend James. He always had a caring heart, and he was talented
with his music. It is important to me to stand up for Deshon because I feel like the community and I as a whole
can stand up for what is right and stop this mess from ever occurring again. Deshon was a talented man and
could have went really far if his life was not cut short. The importance of safe driving needs to be taken seriously
and stressed more. So, here I am to support and to make sure that Deshon and his family get the support that

Sean was such a sweet , and caring person . No one's life should be taken for granted . That is the way NJ
Transit is portraying him . Bus drivers have been extremely careless lately , to a point where it is scary crossing
the street or having them aggrssively pull up in front of your bus stop . Sean and Sean's family needs justice and
closure . Having someone still operating a vehicle that took someone's life is injustice , and it is not fair . I guess
some of you may never understand a mother or father's pain unless you've lost a child . I m not a parent , but I
have seen the stress it has brung upon many people . Sean's family needs closure , although he will never come

Plus, another one of my class mates died from the same thing and a close family friend was injured due to the

A bus, truck, and car can be a weapon against a human being. Drivers need to be aware of the power they
wield, and penalties for indiscriminate or careless use need to be much stiffer. Deshon should not have been

Deshon was a friend of mine, and the circumstances of his death still bother me to this day. I can't believe there
still hasn't been any type of arrests; had this been a person driving a car, he would have faced manslaughter
charges. I take NJ transit every day to get to school, and every day I get reminded of Deshon and how no
justice has been brought about. I hate paying money towards this company, because they do not seem to care. I
will gladly sign this petition to honor my friend and his family, and all those who have faced similar circumstances.

This was a terribly, horrific tragedy for the Johnson Family and NJTransit. Words can't express what the lose of

Deshon was such a talented young man with so many plans for the future. To think that such a bright young man's
life would end like this and no one be held accountable for the negligent killing is a crime in itself! What type of
message is NJTransit sending out to the comminuty at large? How can we feel safe if this is what's going to be
considered OK and tolerated by any transportation company! Something has to be done by NJTransit. . .don't
sweep it under the rug!!! NJTransit needs to own up to their part in this tragic death, make peace with Deshon's
family and move on with a better reputation. . .without blood on their hands. Things need to change. The
community shouldn't have to be worried about the competence of the NJTransit drivers when they are waiting
for, riding on or having recently exited their vehicles.

I am a white person. I am outraged at the blatant racism and disregard that the prosecutor office has towards
Deshons family and the insensitivity towards human life. This mother lost her only child and she have to deal with
a void for the rest of her life. The prosecutor office sounds like they are covering things up for the sake of
protecting county due to lack of pedestrian safety.
A young talented young man lost his life and the bus driver did not get charged. Really!!! The bus driver should
have been charged with vehicular homicide or involuntary manslaughter. I thought the prosecutor supposed to
protect the innocent not the guilty. How can the prosecutor and bus driver sleep at night.
This needs to be continued until justice is done. Not in a vigilante way but in a rightful and justified way for all

but the bus driver continue to ride at a high speed in a reckless manner jumping the handicap ramp of the curb

Deshon was the kind of person who cared about others. Since he's passed, many people have shared their
stories about a time when Deshon showed this uncommon care to them: that he took his time out to show
someone how to skateboard, that he took his time out to listen to the music they made, or that he was a reliable
friend. He was a hard-working son, and he was the kind of together but laid-back person that made him a
unique and much-loved part of his community and peer group. He was talented with music, and had incredible
potential in both life and music. His community feels the loss of the richness that was his personality every day,
and I hope that, while he can't be brought back, things that appropriately honor his name and brightness can be
done as the response to the tragedy he died in.

A friend of mine is going through the same exact thing at this time. This past September, his neice was struck by
a NYC MTA bus and killed. The driver fled the scene and the MTA is doing all it can to protect the driver of the
bus instead of letting him face charges. The video from the bus was also conveniently erased so aside from eyewitnesses that may never step forward there is no proof of wrong doing. The victim actually rolled out of the way
of the tires after being struck by the bus, dragged herself to a pay phone and called for help while others stood
around and watched as she bled from her head and eventually died. This is ridiculous and it isn't the first time I've
heard stories of buses jumping curbs and killing innocent by-standers.

This tragedy happened in my community. There are 4 major bus routes on Blfd. Ave. and I fear for my safety in

Deshon and I went to the same high school, and we were good friends before i moved to Paterson. When i
found out a friend of mine was killed due to the negligence of a bus driver of all things I was emraged, especially

I support this petition to see actions taken on careless and reckless bus drivers that neglect the well being of
pedestrian rights. This kind of mindless act has caused heartache and devastation to many families including my
own family. It has been one incident after another which re-open wounds that you feel will never heal until
something is done through our state first then worldwide. I push for stiffer regulation and stiffer penalty to hold
these aggressive bus drivers accountable for their actions. It's heart-wrenching to see my sister distraught day

driver. Bus supposed to be on the street not curb where innocent people stand.
I will like to see a street named after him, bill pass and a plaque in his honor.
I also think a plaque and street name would be empowering for victims and an ongoing recognition by the bus
companies that they seriously need to prevent any future fatality.

Deshon was not the only person I knew who has been killed my neglectful bus drivers. It is completely
unacceptable and needs to be dealt with. It should have NEVER happened ONCE let alone twice. Its ridiculous

How can nobody be accountable for neglecting to pay attention to an innocent man trying go to work, killing him
as a result? Deshon was a great cat. There's no sense in allowing such reckless driving to go unchecked at the

This petition is important to me because my son was hit when the NJ Transit bus/Coach USA driver jumped the
curb dragging my sons body 50 to 100 feet to his death. If in fact, the bus was turning the corner and jumping
the curb slow my son will be with me. Therefore, I know speeded played a major role in killing my only child
Deshon.
The towns, state or county should display the plaque as an acknowledgement & reminder of what occurred in
the past & to help protect innocent pedestrian in the future. If this simple gesture helps protect just one
pedestrian, it is worth it.
I want the bus driver in jail and a street name after my son. I WANT JUSTICE TO BE SERVED WITH THIS
RUDE INPATIENT BUS DRIVER.

deshon was my classmate, we graduated class of 2008, i could call myself a friend by not honoring his memory.
Also this is an issue that has been overlooked too much and it sadly has ened the life of a beautiful person. Two
ppl from my graduating class has been killed by public transportation, thats no coincidence, changes need to be
made.

I ride NJ Transit and Coach bus daily and their rudeness is unbearable along with thier reckless driving. Never
did I think thier neglect led to deaths of innocent people. The fact that there are zero repercussions is appalling,

I sign this petition because I believe something needs to be done against aggressive , careless and insensitive bus
drivers who do not show concern for the well being of pedestrians. The fatality my sister is dealing with in the
loss of my nephew could have been avoided if there was a law to make bus driver come to a complete stop at
each bus stop, regardless if there's no one standing up flagging the bus down. Trains pull into stations regardless
whether a passenger is getting off or on. They don't pass stations unless it's an express train. The bus that mauled
down my nephew was not an express bus. he just neglected to come to a complete stop at the speed he was
going when turning the corner. There need to be some type of legislature to regulate bus drivers from reckless
and careless driving.

Deshon was a friend of mine, I went to college with him. He was a hardworking, friendly and sweet kid who
passed way too soon. I agree with this petition for two reasons: The first is that something should be done to
prevent such an accident from happening again and taking more lives. The second is that he and his family
deserve much more than what they've had to face due to his passing, hopefully the memorial/plaque could do
some justice.

5. This plaque would serve as a sober reminder of what can happen when bus company poor training fail in their
duty to protect our most vulnerable citizens; children, adults of all ages
6. Whatever can be done to ensure it never happens again should be! The plaque or law change is not only a
great warning but also a great reminder to the bus drivers, NJ Transit/Coach USA and other worldwide public
transportation that it can never take its responsibility for the protection of pedestrian lightly..

and resolution. The bus drivers need to be held reliable for all actions when driving a motor vehicle. The bus
does not cause the death of human life it is the person who is driving. When a fatality such as this occur it should
not be label as mistake because mistake you can be erase and fixed. When you take a life it is unfix-able. NJ
Transit and other state wide public transportation need to be aware who they are hiring, whether it is drivers or
subcontractor.
