Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Bharati
Shipyard (Chennai) in December 2012.
Interview
One of the companies that came as a part of IIT Madras placements. 4.6-5.1 lakhs offer
for B.Techs, Dual degree,M.Techs,MS Nav Arch. An aptitude test followed by tech test for
half an hour each. The aptitude test is pretty simple, while the tech test, tests the basics
of naval architecture. A liberal shortlist for the interview in which all kinds of questions,
many from the tech test itself were asked.Basic and indepth questions were asked. Not
a single mistake ought to be made in answering basic questions, or else the panel
members will form a bad opinion.
Some questions asked are as follows:
How does one calculate the total resistance of a ship
What is righting lever, GZ curve (GZ-GMsin ... .)
Some random welding question (none of my batch mates knew the answer)
Questions related to my project (which has no relation with Nav. Arch.)
What is gross tonnage.
Questions in the tech test :
What is equipment number. Which components of the ship are selected based on this.
Inclining test (what it is, how is it done? )
Oil tankers size classification (arrange in ascending order)
Cavitation of propeller (related questions like mimimum/maximum load...)
Interview Questions

Draw midship section (you are supposed to clearly mark the parts), What is hull
girder section modulus?
The following sequence for the 2nd question : Do you know what section modulus is?Yes. Do you know what the hull girder section modulus is - The section modulus of the
hull girder. Ok, what is the hull girder- "A longitudinal primary strength member" was
the expected answer for which one of the keywords was wrong in my answer. After this

point, that they were completely uninterested. So be strong in your basic (including
jargons of Nav. Arch ).

Interview
1.Aptitude + Technical interview: 10 Aptitude questions and 20 Technical Questions
2.Group Discussion : 2 minutes preparation time after the topic is given and then 7 minutes GD and
conclusion. Try to keep a descent discussion and try not to be aggressive and dominant.
3.Technical HR Interview: Questions in DEPTH based on the Candidates favorite subject.

technical questions are mainly asked from material science and metallurgy ,
thermodynamics and manufacturing process and design and some questions from
vibration.
