General Management Preparation Guidelines

The Process
The Summer Internship recruitment process for a General Management firm includes filling up of a form,
which has to be handwritten. Following this a couple of firms carry out a Psychometric test. Some might
give a Psychometric test after the Chairmans GD as well. For most of them the shortlisting will take place
based on the forms and forms + psychometric wherever applicable.
The General Management carry out the final process of GD and interview over two days. On the first day,
Chairman GDs are held, which is an elimination round. Thereafter, the next day the final interviews are
scheduled.
The Preparation
1. Points to take care while filling up of forms for Gen. Mag.: All the firms provide a handwritten
form with space to write the answers. It should be taken care that the answers do not spill out of
the boxes and the writing is clean and legible. The questions are related to ones experiences, one
can find many questions are the same as those in the HRQs. Hence, it is imperative that one
prepares his/her HRQs well in time and be thorough with it. With a time crunch there is hardly
any time to write them anew. At most one can just modify them.

2. Psychometric Test: There is no such preparation required for a psychometric test. The best way
to attempt is to mark the answers that pop up in ones mind first. Taking a lot of time and thinking
over such questions gives a biased response. While ABG conducts psychometric before the
Chairmans GD, Mahindra conducts it after.

3. Chairmans GD: It is the most important phase of a Gen Man interview. In a group of say 6, each
individual gets to be the Chairman of the discussion once and rest of the times one is a member
of the board i.e. 5 times.

While acting as a Chairman, the first and the most important thing is to read the situation
carefully. One is given around a minute to go through the slip of paper which describes the

situation in hand. Thereafter, the individual (Chairman) describes the same to his/her colleagues
so as to come up with a conclusion/ further course of action. The role as a Chairman of the GD is
to give a structure to the discussion, pitch in which intelligent points as and when necessary and
also to control the discussion from going astray.
While a member, one is expected to pitch in with suitable points, construct and build on the
ongoing discussion.
With respect to this phase, one should practise as many Chairmans GDs as possible to get
acquainted with the process. A list of sample Chairman GD Caselets has been shared with you.
Try to practice these GDs in groups of 6-7 students within time constraints. Invite tuccha(i)s to
moderate the discussion and seek feedback on the discussion.

4. The final interview: Being thorough with HRQs is a must for the final round. HRQs = MAKING OR
BREAKING AN INTERVIEW. The questions can vary from an in-depth interview of the answers
written in the form to basic general knowledge questions. A background preparation of the
company, its different verticals, the most profit making product etc. are the relevant areas one
should pay attention to. To understand the type of questions asked in a Gen Man interview, go
through the past experiences shared by tuchcha(i)s in this module.
We have shared with you company profiles, a current affairs compendium and experiences of
previous General Management Interns to help you with the preparation process.

All The Best,

Team GMLC
