1.

Purpose:
This Method statement provides the sequence and methodology that will
be used for
Installation, testing and commissioning of Diesel
Generator in order to achieve compliance with the contract specification
and Drawings.

Scope of Work:
Installation, testing and commissioning of Diesel Generator detailed on
contract drawing and approved shop drawings.

Responsibility:
In-Line with Project Organization chart and responsibilities explained in
our Quality plan, the following staff will be responsible to carry out the
installation process from start to
Completion.
5.1 Project Manager
The Project Manager will have full authority and overall responsibility to
manage, supervise. He will Control the works and will have direct
responsibility for ensuring safe working
practices and compliance
with regulatory authoritys requirements. Co-ordinate with the engineers
and the Employer Representative for execution of the Contract Scope of
works. Implement the project quality systems to be the satisfaction of
the project requirements. Review changes and variations to evaluate
impact of those on time and schedule.
5.2 Construction Manager
Responsible to ensure that all works are carried-out as per the
specifications, approved shop drawings and Method Statement as per
the manufacturer instructions and
coordinated with other

works. Provide solution to issues that may take place during the
installation process.
5.3 Project Engineer
Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out
as per the
specifications, approved shop drawings and Method
Statements as per the
manufacturers instructions
and coordinated with other works.
5.4 QA/QC Engineer
Responsible to monitor the work Quality on site with all associated
aspects such as but not limited to quality of material arriving to site
prior to installation, installation methodology and procedure and
carrying-out initial inspections for completed works prior to submit
official request for final inspection by the Engineer.
5.5 Site Engineer

The Site Engineer shall co-ordinate site activities and provide


supervision to the workers executing the job online in-line with the
approved work schedule and
sequence of work
Shall liaise with site representatives of employer and contractor and
co-ordinate
safety procedures with site supervisors and site
foremen.
Shall Co-ordinate and explain the work to be carried out to the
Supervisors / Site
Foreman.
Ensure the compliance of works with the related approved Quality
Control Procedure and co-ordinate with the Contractor QA/QC
Engineer to advise for the areas to be
issued for inspection.

5.6 Safety Engineer/Officer


The safety is responsible for everyone.
The Safety Engineer/Officer is responsible for ensure that all Health
and Safety
Regulations and Requirements are
implemented on site.
Conduct Tool Box Talk to all site workers and supervisors prior to work
commencement on site and attendance sheet must be signed by the
all attendees.
Perform site Safety Risk Assessment to identify hazards prior to work
commencement on site.
Responsible for carrying out training, monitoring the work activities,
carrying out
inspections and reporting to the Principal
contractor safety department and carrying out accident and incident
investigations.

5.7

Site Supervisors and Site Foremen

The project team of experienced Supervisors and Foremen shall ensure the
quality of the installation work carried out, and shall also ensure that it is as
per the latest
approved construction shop drawing issued for
installation and according to
instructions received from the Site
Engineer.
To provide direct supervision to workers on site during the installation process
of Diesel Generator.
To ensure that he has adequate resources of machinery, labour and materials
to carry out all the activities efficiently and to discuss with the Site Engineer.
To ensure safe and clean working environment.

Installation Procedure:
6.1

Preliminary Activities /Approvals

6.2

6.1.1 Submit the method statement and risk assessment for the
engineers approval.
6.1.2 Ensure all risks are managed in this method statement and
residual risks are
acceptable.
Storage:

6.2.1 Survey and check site for material delivery accessibility.


6.2.2 Store materials in protected dry location off-ground in accordance with
Manufacturers
instructions.
6.2.3 Ensure all the hoisting chain / belts are in good condition and checked by
Competent Safety Officer prior to any lifting activity unloading of materials
at designated storage area and ensure no blockage to any access.
6.2.4 Deliver and store materials in manufacturer's original packaging labelled to
show name, brand, type and grade.
6.2.5 Submit Material Inspection Request upon receipt of materials delivery to
site. Attach Delivery Receipt, Material Submittal Approval and other
documents to show complete compliance with specifications and QA /QC
Plan.
6.2.6 Any material found not as of approved material or with surface damage
which is not
rectifiable will be notified. These materials will be
labelled and returned to supplier warehouse and a Non-conformance
Report will be issued to the Supplier by QA/QC superior.
6.2.7 Prior to commencement of work, the Engineers & Supervisor/Foreman will
inspect all materials delivered to work place are checked for with their
shipment check list and ensure they are the relevant piece for the site and
materials are not damaged, without excessive scratches or visible
corrosion.
6.3

Pre-installation of diesel generator

6.3.1 Site engineer (electrical) has to ensure that all the materials are
received at site as per the approved material submittals and verify the
rating.
6.3.2 The Diesel Generator Sets, Fuel Tanks and accessories shall be carefully
checked prior to shifting to site for any mechanical damage during
transportation.
6.3.3 Prior to installation, the foundation will be checked for clearness and level.
6.3.4 Pre delivery inspection shall be performed by the system
manufacturers local dealers facility to ensure no damage is occurred
in transit to all DG set components.
6.3.5 Prior to start installation, site engineers (electrical) should ensure that
approved shop drawings related to the installation area are referred
and that required materials are available at site as per approved
material submittals.
6.3.6 The name plates shall be checked against equipment data sheet to
confirm conformity with the approval.
6.3.7 Where the auxiliaries are shipped loose, these will be identified and
checked against the dispatch documents. Any item found missing or
damaged will be noted to the supplier immediately for the
replacement/repair.
6.3.8 Material inspection request should be raised for material verification upon
delivery the rating.
6.3.9 Ensure all civil works are completed for the area including floor paint to
carry out the installation, and clearance is obtained from respective
authorities to proceed further installation of DG set.
6.3.10Installation work shall be carried out only with respect to approved
shop drawing of latest revision.
6.3 Installation of diesel generator
6.4.1 Diesel Generator set will be off loaded to the place nearest to the
installation and protected properly from dust & environment, etc.
6.4.2 Ensure that the installation of diesel generator set are carried out in
accordance
with
manufactures
and
authoritys
installation
recommendation ,requirement of applicable standards and in
accordance with recognized industrial practices and specified in project
specification to ensure that installation complies with requirements.
6.4.3 Alternator neutral terminal and & body shall be connected with the
designated earth pit as per approved shop drawing.
6.4.4 Alternator control panel shall be connected with power /control cables
as per approved shop drawing and manufactures recommendations.
6.4.5 Cable connection between alternator, control panel and main
distribution board shall be done as per approved shop drawing.
6.4.6 From main distribution board to other sub panels, power distribution
work shall be done as per approved shop drawing.
6.4.7 Special attention shall be paid to the condition of instruments and
monitoring devices supplied loose or installed along with the Diesel
Generator Set.

6.4.8 Air inlet openings and other GI sleeves for exhaust pipes shall be
provided on walls during construction as per approved builders work
drawing and engineers recommendation.
6.4.9 Exhaust pipes and mufflers supports shall be fixed to the slab with unfix,
threaded rods and nuts as per engineers approval.
6.4.10Flap shall be fitted at the external ends of the exhaust pipes.
6.4.11Fuel oil pipes shall properly be fixed on the wall with saddles and clamps
6.4.12LV cables shall be terminated from Master control panel of Generator to
separate Main Distribution Board-Generator (EMDB) through cable trays
and then distributed to ESMDBS and EMCCS.
6.4.13Diesel Generator Sets system shall be connected to Building
Management System (BMS) as per specification.
6.4.14After inspection of Diesel Generator Sets and engineers approval, proper
care shall be taken to protect the units from dust and moisture by
suitable covering until all units are in service.
7.0

Testing And Commissioning Of Diesel Generator

Please refer the attached method statement from the Diesel


Generator contractor Prime Power System, for the testing
and commissioning.
Once the testing and commissioning of Diesel Generator are
completed as per Prime Power System Method statement and
the same is approved and accepted by all parties, the entire
system will be handed over to the engineers.

8.0 Labour, Plant & Material Requirements


8.0.1

Labour:

High trained Charge Hands and Electrician will be dedicated to carry


out the
installation of Diesel Generator under the
supervision of the project team shown on the project organization
chart in accordance with the approved shop drawings.

Materials:

Approved Materials as per the approved specifications includes:


Installation,
testing and commissioning of Diesel Generator.

8.1.4 Hydraulic Crimping Tool.

Health & Safety Requirements:

All Safety Regulations and requirements as per the project approved


EHSP plan must be implemented and monitored on site at all times
by -- staff.
Safety induction and training to all involved site staff will be provided
by the main
contractor prior to commencing any activities
on site.
Tool box talk will be provided by safety office to highlight and hazards
or safety
regulations to be followed during the installation of
Diesel Generator on site and
attendance singing sheet will
be kept.
All Personal on Site must Wear (PPE) equipments at all times
Ensure proper barricading to the work area with Standard safety
warning signs to be placed all around, visible to the public at any
point where work on site to be performed
The approved Risk Assessment Sheet must be implemented during
the work course on site to prevent or minimize any identified risks
during the execution of the job on site.
Environmental Requirements
In accordance with DGBR and BM Environmental requirements and
instructions
related to waste collection & housekeeping on site,
--- will dedicate the required number of workers to perform the house
cleaning on site at all times and segregate and dispose any waste
materials in-order to maintained a healthy environment during the
installation of Diesel Generator . Workers to Clear all the tools and
equipment
after each work shift and ensure all surrounding areas
are free of debris and work area is left in safe condition.

11.
Quality Control Arrangements (Testing, Inspections &
Records):
All Quality control measures and site inspections will be carried out in
accordance with the approved PQ plan.
Quality Assurance and Quality control of all aspects of the installation
process must be monitored at all times by future metro QA/QC
Engineer.
Following the installation of Diesel Generator, --- will conduct initial
inspection prior to submit a formal request for inspection (IR) by the
client.
Request for inspection shall be prepared by ---- Engineer and shall be
issued to BM for further inspection with Consultant.

12.

-----QA/QC Engineer shall co-ordinate with Client / Consultant to


arrange for site inspection and submit an (IR) 48 hours minimum
before inspection date.
