The United Kingdom consists of 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland. It is considered a sovereign state and it is located northwest of mainland
Europe. The single land border is in Northern Ireland, and others are in the Atlantic
Ocean, English channel Irish Sea and the North Sea. Run by a parliamentary system
and constituicional monarchy, the United Kingdom has as head of state the Queen
Elizabeth II and is headquarters is located in the capital, London. It is the seventh most
powerful economy in the world and the first to industrialize, which took place at the
time the industrial revolution (1760-1840). The United Kingdom remains today a major
geopolitical influence in decisions concerning economics and policy, becoming one off
the biggest nuclear power Nations. This country is part of the European Union, the G8,
the Commonwealth of Nations, World Trade Organization, North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) and the United Nations Security Council. The population of the
UK is made up with several ethnic groups: Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Roman, Celtic and
Pre-Celtic. During the time of the British Empire, there was an increase in the
immigration process from Caribbean and south East Asia. United Kingdom official
languages are English (British) Welsh in Wales and Gaelic in Northern Ireland and
Scotland.

In 1707 there was a union of crowns of England and Scotland, giving rise to the
Kingdom of Great Britain. The unification of Northern Ireland with Britain took place in
1801, giving birth United Kingdom of Great Britain. The flag of the Great Britain is
known for the Union Flag, and it have these important elements: the St Georges
Cross, represents England (red in the middle as background); St Andrews cross,
represents Scotland (withe in X format with blue background); and Saint Patricks
Cross, corresponds to the Island of Ireland (red in X format with withe background).
Wales, another British nation, has never been represented in the United Kingdom flag
and was considered, alongside with Cornwall, as a region of England, also represented
the English flag cross of St Georges. The welsh official flag consists of the red dragon
and the background is divided horizontally between white (upper half) and green on
the bottom.

The United Kingdom is divided by England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
England has an irregular terrain and it is mountainous in the North. Gales is generally
hilly with ups-and-downs and their highest peak is the Snowdon Mountain. In Scotland
varies the lowlands in the South East and highlands in the North West. Scotland also
has several islands off its northern shores.

England, where the capital is London, have many traveling location to think about.
They have beauty and culture, the best museums, like The National Gallery, the British
Museum, the famous Buckingham Palace and how can we not stop to visit the famous
tower Big Ben. Several British Islands have beautiful landscapes and history. It is a
country with lots of culture and art history to tell. I find out in this country many kinds
of tourism for all tastes, like theater, monuments, natural landscapes, ancient
architecture and more. One of the sites most visited in England is the Stonehenge,
considered as a UNESCO WORLD HERTAGE. Northern Irelands, in the capital Belfast, is
where the night is full of life, with a contemporary life style. It is a city that attract
many tourist to their culture. The most visited place is the ULSTER MUSEUM which
has a great collection of art, history and natural sciences from dinosaurs and
mummies.
