Vernissage Wordpress Theme

1. Getting started
To use this theme you must have a working version of WordPress already installed.

1.1 Installation
These installation instructions are specific to WordPress 3.1 and above:
When you are ready to install a theme, you must first upload the theme files and then
activate the theme itself. The theme files can be uploaded in two ways:
- FTP Upload: Using your favorite FTP program, upload the non-zipped theme folder
into the /wp-content/ themes/ folder on your server.
- WordPress Upload: Log into your WordPress Admin Panel Navigate to Appearance >
Add New Themes > Upload. Go to browse, and select the zipped theme folder. Hit Install
Now and the theme will be uploaded and installed.
Once the theme has completed uploading, you need to activate it. Go to Appearance >
Themes and Activate your chosen theme.
Its all! Now you are ready for write your posts.

1.2

Setting up the Homepage

By default the homepage will show up your latest posts. If you want to show only menu
with background slider or video and so on (like on the demo), you must create a new page.
You can do so by navigating to Pages > Add New. Select the Homepage template from
the Page Attributes section and click Publish. All entered content on this template will
show up as welcome message

Once you have created your new page which you want to use as homepage, navigate to
Settings > Reading and configure the Front Page Displays setting. Select the static page
option and choose the page you just created as your front page.
Your homepage is now created and ready for use.

Setting up the Blog

To set up the blog you must create a new page, you can do so by navigating to Pages > Add
New. Once you have created your new page which you want to use as blog, navigate to
Settings > Reading and configure the Front Page Displays setting. Select the static page
option and choose the page you just created as your posts page.
Your blog page is now created and ready for use. All posts will show up on this page.
1.3.1 Adding Blog Items
This theme supported Post Formats. Post Formats is a theme feature introduced with
Version 3.1. A Post Format is a piece of meta information that can be used by a theme to
customize its presentation of a post. The Post Formats feature provides a standardized list
of formats that are available to all themes that support the feature.
In short, with a theme that supports Post Formats, a blogger can change how each post
looks by choosing a Post Format from a radio-button list.
Each post format has his own settings. You can see this setting below the editor area while
adding/editing a post. If current type of a post format did not has an individual setting you
can't see them.
Note: To add the gallery post format you must to add images that will be using in
slideshow. Click on 'Set featured image' and download your images that you want to show
up in the slideshow. Once your images uploaded, select a featured image for this project
(this image will be used as thumbnail). After this just close a dialog box and click 'Publish'.

Setting up the Portfolio

To set up the portfolio you must create a new page, you can do so by navigating to Pages >
Add New. Select the Portfolio template from the Page Attributes section and click
Publish.
Your portfolio page is now created and ready for use. All projects will show up on this
page.

1.4.1 Adding Portfolio Items


To add a new portfolio item, navigate to Portfolios > Add Project. Here you can add a title
and description of the project, assign various categories for this project and upload media.
Each portfolio project can have a type: Image, Slideshow or Video. You can set type of the
each project through "Project Settings" field that you can find below the editor while
adding/editing a project.
Now, I'll try to explain how to add each type of project.
1. Adding Image project.
Navigate to Portfolios > Add Project. Enter a name for your project, add a content,
select a type of portfolio and so on.
Now, you need to assign an image for this project. Click on 'Set featured image' and
download your image. Once uploaded, click 'Use as featured image' and publish your
project. Your project was published.

2. Adding Slideshow project.


Navigate to Portfolios > Add Project. Enter a name for your project, add a content,
select a type of portfolio and so on.
Now, set a type of this project to 'Slideshow '. You can do it below the editor area.
Now you must to add images that will be using in slideshow. Click on 'Add media' and

download your images that you want to show up in the slideshow. Once your images
uploaded, select a featured image for this project (this image will be used as
thumbnail). After this just close a dialog box and click 'Publish'. Your project was
published.
In other words, all images that was attached to current project will show up in
slideshow.

3. Adding Video project.


Navigate to Portfolios > Add Project. Enter a name for your project, add a content,
select a type of portfolio and so on.
Now, set a type of this project to 'Slideshow '. You can do it below the editor area. Once
this done, you'll see the field for the embed code below the selector. Paste here you
youtube, vimeo or other embed code and publish. Don't forget to provide a featured
image for this project for using as thumbnail.

Setting up the Background Slider

Background Slider show up automatically if you have slides.


To adding a slide, navigate to Slides > Add slide. Enter a name for your slide (this name
uses just for you and will not show up), select a featured image and add a slide title if
needed. Click 'Publish'. Follow the same steps for each slide.

Setting up the Gallery

To set up the gallery you must create a new page, you can do so by navigating to Galleries >
Add Gallery.

Now you must to add images which will be show up on this gallery page. Click on Add
media' and download your images that you want to show up in this gallery. Once your
images uploaded just close a dialog box. Then select a proper gallery layout in the right
section and click Publish. Your gallery page is now created and ready for use. You can
create a lot of the galleries with different layouts. Don't forget to provide a featured image
for this project for using as thumbnail in the filterable gallery page (read below about this
page)
All images that was attached to current page will show up in the current gallery.

Now, you can add your galleries in the menu. You can do so by navigating to Appearance > Menus. On the left side you can see your galleries. If you don't see them check your
screen settings. The Screen Options pull down tab is located in the upper right corner of
your Dashboard.
Hey! Stop! Its not all. More than this, you can create one gallery page where you can
display all created galleries.
To set up this page you must create a new page, you can do so by navigating to Pages >
Add New. Select the Gallery template from the Page Attributes section and click
Publish.
Your page is now created and ready for use. All galleries will show up on this page.

2. Theme Features
The theme comes packed with features that control the layout and extend the functionality
of WordPress. The theme comes with a simple to use administration panel. You can access
it by navigating to Appearance > Theme Options. Here you can edit a colors, the main
menu position, upload your logo and so on. Please, view these options.

2.1

Featured images

The theme supports the use of featured images. To setting a Featured Image open the
editor of the post or project where you want to display a unique custom header image, and
locate the Featured Image module in the bottom right corner under Page Attributes. Click
Set featured image.
If you dont see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please
make sure youve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.
You will see an uploading screen identical to that used when inserting an image into a blog
post. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose the image from your computer and upload it
or choose it from one of the images already in your Media Library.
Once the image has successfully been uploaded click Use as featured image. Dont forget to
click Update on your post/page to save your changes. Your featured image is now set!
To remove or change a featured image, simply re-open the post editor and click Remove
featured image in the Featured Image module.

2.2 Custom menus


This theme menus controlled through the Wordpress Menus. The header menu can be
placed on the left or the right. You can select preffered menu position when if navigate to
Appearance > Theme Options > tab Appearance

This allows you to:

Change the order of pages

Nest pages to create sub-menus

Display posts on multiple pages by creating category pages

Add posts, tag pages, and custom links to your navigation menu

To create a custom menu, go to Appearance -> Menus in your blogs dashboard. If you do
not see the Appearance menu option, you are not an administrator on the blog.
To create a custom navigation menu, type in a name for it (only you will see this) and click
Create Menu.

Adding pages to your menu is as simple as checking the proper boxes for the pages you
want and then clicking Add to Menu.

2.3 Widget areas


Widget is a fancy word for tools or content that you can add, arrange, and remove from the
sidebars of your blog. Widgets make it easy to customize the content of your sidebar.
The theme come pre-packed with 3 sidebars/widget areas:

Blog sidebar (Widgets inserted here will show up in the blog)

Portfolio sidebar (Widgets inserted here will show up in the portfolio)

Page sidebar (Widgets inserted here will show up in the pages)

You can access it by navigating to Appearance > Widgets.


To add a widget, drag the widget from the Available Widgets or Inactive Widgets area
on the left into the Sidebar area on the right. When you see a dashed line appear, you can
drop the widget into place. You can also change the order of the widgets by dragging and
dropping them around in the sidebar.
Each widget has configuration options. To make changes to a widget in the sidebar, click
on the triangle on the right side. This will open up the options for the widget. Each widget
will be different.
After you have have configured the widget, click the Save button. Clicking the Close link
will minimize the configuration options again.
If you would like to remove a widget from the sidebar, click the Delete link in the
configuration options as show above.

2.4 Custom background settings (image/audio/video)


The theme comes with the ability to set a custom background image/audio/video or
pattern on each page, post or project. You can set a custom background
image/audio/video while editing either page, post or project using a custom background
meta box below the editor. You can also setup a default background for the whole website.
You can do this in the Theme Options > tab named as 'Background'.
