Chickenpox (Varicella) Vaccine Safety

300 words:
This article discusses the fact that chickenpox is a disease that is still prevalent,
and explains how it originated from the varicella-zoster virus. Chickenpox is a rash that
often contain pustules that may cause fever and is uncomfortable and hard for patients to
not scratch their skin. Chickenpox is a virus and is spread airborne, and transmitted by
people touching any surfaces that contain the virus. In addition, chickenpox can also
cause shingles later on in that persons life. Just having two doses of the varicella vaccine
can prevent the chickenpox illness. Their may be side effects from the vaccine but the
benefits definitely outweigh consequences The chickenpox vaccine is a live virus so it
may be spread to others who are in close contact with them. This is because those who
have low immune systems, will have some sort of contact with the live virus and may end
up developing the chickenpox disease. However, this occurs rarely and is hardly ever an
issue.
Chickenpox Vaccine Side Effects. Serious side effects are rare but may include
severe rash, infections of the lungs or liver, meningitis, seizures, pneumonia, or general
severe infection with the virus strain from the vaccine(Varicella (Chickenpox)." Working
in a clinic I have not seen a serious reaction related to vaccines. It may be easy to focus
on the negative, but I believe we should focus on the positive and help those in the
community who are not able to have the vaccine themselves. Anyone who is pregnant or
allergic to the vaccine is not advised to have the vaccine.
The Varicella vaccine was permitted to be given to patients who were older than
12 months old in 1995. In 2005 a combination vaccine was granted permission to be
given to patients from 12months old to 12 years old. This immunization is called

Proquad, which protects patients against MMR and Chickenpox. Also, rest assured the
CDC and FDA routinely test and observe these vaccines to assure their safety.
