Terminology

Objects

The database contains many different objects

Files are no longer used
In V6, think of everything as a Product

Terminology

Product
Product
-creates empty Product
- same as V5 CATProduct

Terminology

3D Part

The 3D Part is actually a Product

Terminology
3D Part

3DPart
-A Product with an unbreakable link to a
3D Shape
-Contains Part and Representation
- Managed as ONE object

10

10

Terminology

3D Shape/Representation

3DShape
- creates "Stand Alone"
Shape/Representation in tree directly
under Product

Representation
- panel appears, can select
3DShape, Drawing, FEA model,
Review, etc.

Terminology

PPR Context

PPR Context = V5 CATProcess

- an extended Product Reference.
Used to create a manufacturing
context, which defines the Products
and Resources involved for particular
processes and how they are
positioned together.

A PPR Context contains the following.............

A resource called the Machining cell containing a default
machine
An instance of the original product
A logical representation containing a default Part Operation and
Manufacturing Program entities. It contains the programs of the
machine. This logical representation is attached to the default
machine. The Part Operation is linked to the product instance.

17

17

Terminology

Machining Cell

Machining Cell
- A Resource inside the PPR Context
which contains the Part Operation,
Machining Program, tool and tool
assemblies and Machine information.
It is a searchable object.

Machining Cell
Main PLM entity for
Machining. It is located in the
PPR Context and contains
\the machining resources
(Setup Assembly, Machine
and Tools) required to
machine a product.

Terminology

NC Container

NC Container
A representation under the Machining Cell where the APT, clfile, or ISO file is stored.
The APT file does not physically exist in the database until it is exported out.
