Dear Future President,

Global Warming is real and it is happening. There is nothing we can do to stop it, but we
can slow it down

if we take immediate action.

Our country contributes so much to Global Warming, but we ignore our impact. A
fundamental principle of the Declaration of Independence states, ...organizing its powers in
such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. It is the
government's duty to make sure its people are safe and happy. By doing nothing about global
warming they are putting our lives in danger. If we focused our time, money and talents into
natural resources and eco-friendly products, we would be helping out the Earth and our citizens.
Climate Change is a natural process but at the accelerated rate its heating up is a result of
human interference. If you look at graphs showing Climate Change over the past 500,000 years
youll see evidence that the Earth has gone through multiple warm ages and ice ages. If the
global warming we are in now was progressing naturally we would be heading into a cooling
down phase, but this isnt the case. Ever since the Industrial Revolution the Earth has heated up
exponentially as our society has consumed fossil fuels at an ever faster rate. This is mostly due to
an increasing amount of greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases
occur naturally but some are a result of human activities such as deforestation and the burning of
fossil fuels.
We rely on fossil fuels to power and make many of the things we use. As our population
grows so does our reliance on fossil fuels. We have been using so much that we are running out
of reserves. Since fossil fuels are not reusable, we will eventually run out of them completely.
Sure it might be an estimated 50, 60, or 100 years down the line, but we will use them all up.
Which is why switching to a renewable energy source like solar power is an overall plus to our
nation. Why are we waiting for fossil fuels to disappear and our Earth to be in ruins before we
switch to renewable energy? Why must we wait while our shorelines disappear in Alaska, the
west suffers from drought and the southeast is devastated by flooding?
I hope we can recognize how much better of an investment renewable energy and natural
resources are in the long run. There are many negative costs we will all have to face if we keep
using fossil fuels and emitting carbon dioxide in the air. Damage to property and infrastructure,
increased natural disasters, lost productivity and cleanup expenses due to climate change could
devastate our economy to repair. As one of the countries that emits the most carbon dioxide, we
must demonstrate strong leadership and set the example of using naturals resources to keep our
country economically sound and preserve the Earth.
Sincerely, Katiana Bimshas
