1. What are 3 assumptions about leadership that you could apply to a

school context?
It talks about 3 main assumptions which were people are motivated by
reward and punishment, social systems work best with a clear chain of
command and when people have agreed to do a job, a part of the deal is
that they cede all authority to their manager. In my opinion, it achieves
the purpose of a subordinate is to do what their manager tells them to do
so, as each leader they want to manage the members as they like and
use the authority to build that basics. At school the principal could apply
the transactional style to a school context through motivated people and
it works well through a clear chain of command started from the principal,
vice principal, the administer staff, teachers, students, bus supervisor,
cleaners canteen workers, bus drivers.
2. What does the transactional leader do?

the transactional leader create clear structures whereby it is

clear what is required of their subordinates, and the rewards
that they get for following the orders but they are also wellunderstood and formal systems of discipline are usually in place.
Also, negotiating the contract whereby the subordinate is given
a salary and other benefits but as school community I think that
happen through budget. In addition, when leader allocates work
to a subordinate, they are considered to be fully responsible for
it, whether or not they have the resources or capability to carry
it out when things go wrong, then the subordinate is considered
to be personally at fault, and is punished for their failure (just as
they are rewarded for succeeding). Finally, they often uses

management by exception, working on the principle that if

something is operating to defined (and hence expected)
performance then it does not need attention. Exceptions to
expectation require praise and reward for exceeding
expectation, whilst some kind of corrective action is applied for
performance below expectation.

1. What are 3 assumptions about leadership that you could apply to

a school context?

It talks about 3 main assumptions which were people will follow

a person who inspires them, a person with vision and passion
can achieve great things and the way to get things done is by
injecting enthusiasm and energy. During the practicum I saw
how the principal deal with the members in the school and i was
impressed with her leader style and I felt that the environment
in the school was positive and encourages members to be
effective. At school the principal could apply the transactional style to a
school context through motivated people and affect their emotions to get
the positive results by encouraging them through provide the positive
environment to work.
2. How does a transformational leader work with a vision?
I asked the principal during the interview that I did with her before about
her vision and she said her first vision is caring about the humanitarian.
She mean to deal with people in the school not as a leader to member but
deals with them as a human and carrying about their emotions and
feelings.
3. What can be a hidden problem with this style of leadership?

EDU4103_ Management Styles_2016

A hidden problem can hidden under this style when people can exploit the
leader humanitarian it will be a problem so, that will lets the leader to
change the vision and what he/she believes and that also will affects the
other members who's doesnt exploit the leader humanitarian.
