Observation #1

Maryam School

20 +sts

Reading and writing 9 and 10

Period 3

Grade

October 19, 2016

Strengths

Needs improvement

All sts have small whiteboards. They are

used for starting/revision activity.
The lesson in about 9 and 10, the revision
is all other numbers and they are out of
order.
Good use of visuals ( PPT)
Excellent job of breaking up TTT with use
of whiteboards and activities embedded
into her explanation. ALL STS are actively
engaged MOST OF THE LESSON!!!
Tr uses a mix of numbers to review and
teach simultaneously.
Tr seems comfortable and natural in front
of the class. She uses a bell to bring sts
back to control, but the whining
continues.
Tr is sticking to her timings well.

Never allow sts to shout out the greeting, it sets

the scene for loud voices all through the lesson.
Students are constantly making unnecessary
sounds and shouting out answers. This creates an
annoying blanketing sound.
Students were easily able to complete all math
related to the activities, an element of challenge
was missing.
A lot of time was spent passing out material. It did
not impact the lesson, tr passed out as the sts
were working, but ideally the materials would be
prepared and placed on the table in advance and
the tr would instruct the sts what to use.
The teacher did not do a closing, even though it
was planned and the tr had time according to the
timetable, she thought the lesson was done
( there is not a bell in this school to indicate end
of lesson)

Competency

Observations

Professionalism
:

Teacher was prepared and present in the class before the sts.

Planning for
learning:

A lesson plan was prepared and presented.

Implementing
and managing
learning:

TR does a good job of selecting and executing her activities. She makes
good use of whiteboards and manipulatives.

Monitoring and
assessment:

Tr circulates and observes, but no documentation is seen.

The first 5 minutes of the class allowed the sts to get out of control, the tr was trying to get a
PPT to work and was facing technical difficulties.
There is poor sportsmanship demonstrated I the class. Sts are over competitive and very vocal
about others getting correct answers.
The tr has selected her activities well and an impressive amount of active learning is taking
place.
The lesson plan needs to be more of a working document and less of a formal display.
When the lesson is simple like this one was, understanding needs to be assessed and activities
terminated when sts have achieved their objective. Any of these activities would have been

sufficient and tr could have moved the sts into the book or onto he next topic. There was not
much challenge.
Only laminate material when they are to be used multiple times. For single use (like gluing
beans) an unlaminated paper is fine ( save time and resources) .
