Economic Growth and Environmental Degradation

Economic growth does bring some benefits, such as increased local

revenue reducing unemployment, and automatically reduce poverty. But,
economic growth is not possible if there is no industry that voracious spending
energy sources. Currently, the diversity of things needed such a man has
evolved significantly compared to the past. Humans need the necessities of life
are not only about the primary goods such as food and shelter but also a variety
of facilities and other luxury goods. Provide humans with various items require
the exploitation of natural resources. As a result, conventional energy sources
that we use today cause pollution so that economic growth can hardly avoid
environmental damage.
One aspect of the most influential economic growth on the environment is
the establishment of large industrial plants that are intended to produce more
goods and products with higher speeds. These factories produce a lot of waste in
the form of liquid or gas. Liquid waste is often disposed of in rivers or freshwater
lakes, while the exhaust gases released into the atmosphere. Liquid waste water
causes pollution damage aquatic ecosystems. Polluting exhaust gases in the
atmosphere which in the long run will have an impact on the health of humans
and animals. Exhaust gas industry also led to a decrease in the quality of the
ozone layer, which owns one of the causes of the acceleration of global warming.
Conventional energy sources are commonly used today regarded as the
most polluting for the environment. The growth rate of industrial and
manufacturing also led to intensive energy consumption continues to rise. One
might say that the solution lies in the use of what are referred to as nonconventional energy sources such as ocean waves, geothermal, or wind. These
energy sources are preferred as environmentally friendly, but at the same time
they have some critical deficiencies. One of them is the installation that was
cost-prohibitive. Switching from one energy source to another source of energy
also takes a long time to be borne by humans to support this transition. In a
democratic country, to convince people to accept these alternative energy
sources is a challenge that is not easily conquered.
Simultaneously, if applicable, non-conventional energy sources still can
not solve the problem of environmental damage caused. To produce energy

economically advantageous, for example by using geothermal sources or water

waves, sometimes led to distortion of nature in which these energy sources are
built. These distortions are expensive and have a negative impact on the
environment is fundamental. The application of wind energy requires inhibition of
wind currents that flow naturally to obtain the expected strength of wind currents
and wind currents weakening after passing the windmill. Consequently, the
balance of the pressure generated by these flows will occur, and it is worth
noting that the environment and the weather conditions will be affected directly
by the atmospheric pressure of engineering the transfer inhibition and wind
currents.
As we can see, the economic growth associated with environmental
damage, and at the level of the current building, It is caused by various factors
such as has not been able to use alternative energy sources and these sources
are expensive to build. But the most important reason is that economic growth is
continuing to cause an increase in the level of industrial production. The more
expansive industry, the more conventional energy sources is needed. Because
energy use is causing serious pollution, it can be concluded that economic
growth is inseparable from damage to the environment.
