Dear Future President,

What if you are walking casually down a street and have been stopped by a police officer
and put in a jail for a false crime because of your skin color, how would that make you feel? I
know for a fact that this is wrong and unpatriotic. The foundation that is supposed to protect and
serve for the people, is now beating and sometimes killing citizens of this country because of
what they look like. This makes me angry at our law enforcement when people in this country
can not live their life just like the rest of the Americans. Many officers assumed as if they did
something against the law just because of their skin color. This matters because the people of
color dont get to live their life in the pursuit of happiness when they themselves are frightened
and unsafe when near police officers.
People of color now see that the law enforcement does not care about black lives and that
their lives are useless. A writer from the American Civil Liberties Union stated It occurs every
day, in cities and towns across the country, when law enforcement and private security target
people of color for humiliating and often frightening detentions, interrogations, and searches
without evidence of criminal activity and based on perceived race, ethnicity, national origin, or
religion. Our people do not feel as if they are safe because of the actions these officers are taking.
The law enforcement judges people of color and often accuses them for a false crime, leaving
them in prison for something they did not do. This makes people feel like their rights are not
being respected under the law.
Officers have an advantage over the people of our country. Michael Brown, an 18 year old
African-American victim that has been shot and killed by a white police officer for something he
did not do, note that this man was unarmed. The Police officer not only just shot one time at the
victim but fired multiple bullets that had KILLED Michael Brown. His right to live has been
violated and disrespected for just being black. The police officer was not charged for the murder
of Michael Brown, and it shows that many people feel like their rights has been restricted and
careless. His death has made a big impact to the black lives matter movement, many protesters
were chanting "No justice, no peace". Not only were the words of the chant true, there has not
been a change in our law enforcements perspective on black lives.
I hope that targeting people of color for committing a false crime will not be continued.
Another hope Im wishing for is that police officers can see the perspective of a black persons life
and know that they are being affected. By being a good President and solving this issue, it will
make your American citizens feel more safe in this country and towards our law enforcement.
Sincerely,
Anthony Valdez
