2008 is the starting year of the First Commitment Period in Kyoto

Protocol for Reduction of Greenhouse Gas emission. In order to save the
Earth, we have to reduce the Greenhouse Gas Emission in the atmosphere.
We, however, have to continue to produce energy for the economic growth
in the world.
On the contrary, high price of crude oil is now influencing to the economic

activities in the world. We have to consider the diversification of energy

source from oil to others. Gas power generation is one of the ways to
solve this problem.

General Specifications
We, Niigata, provide our advanced gas engine for such solutions.
Generator / Marine equipment
Niigata developed the first marine diesel engine in
Gas Engines

1919.Since then, Niigata has been developing the diesel and gas engine technologies by the Customers' requirement. In
1989,Niigata developed and manufactured first low - NOx gas engine, and has been brushing up these technologies and experience.

Gas Turbines

This AG series gas engine is the third generation of Niigata gas engine.

1High Ignition Power

MicroMicro-pilot Ignition System

Niigata developed Micro-pilot ignition system, instead of spark
plug ignition, which uses a small amount of pilot oil.(approx.1% of
all fuel in calorific conversion) Ignition power of new system will
be 5,000 to 10,000 times compared with conventional spark
ignition system. This Micro-pilot burning gas energy generated by
Pre-Combustion Chamber and velocity enter the main chamber
to ignite few mixture gas fuel rapidly.
Therefore, this system is able to run at higher BMEP with
knocking free and stable combustion.
Niigata, also, developed Spark Plug Starting System which assists
a rapid and smooth transition to Micro-pilot ignition under various
conditions.

2High Electric Thermal Efficiency

Niigata adopted miller cycle for combustion, high
performance turbo-charger for high efficient intake
air/exhaust gas and optimizing the design of precombustion chamber. By integrating these elements,
Niigata achieved 47.6% electric thermal efficiency. That
is a one of the highest performance in the world(28AG
series).
With reciprocating engines like gas engines, the electric
thermal efficiency increases as the compression ratio
increases, but increasing the compression ratio is limited
because knocking will occur. With the miller cycle, more
energy can be taken out, making it possible to enhance
the efficiency by making the expansion ratio larger than
the compression ratio by setting the closing timing of
the intake valves faster than the normal setting. Since
the effective compression ratio decreases, margin
against the kocking is increased.
To improve the performance, the opening/closing timing
of the intake valves and the compression ratio must be
optimized. In the development of AG series gas engines,
engine performance was predicted by cycle simulation
and proved by the test and experiment.
*Miller cycle shall be applied for 28AG series.
*Electrical thermal efficiency described shall include 5%
tolerance.

3Optimized Design and Unitization of auxiliary equipment

Niigata AG series has been developed based on the
technology and experience of HLX series high
performance medium speed diesel engines.
These performance and durability are well proved
both in Japan and foreign countries.
Also, in order to save the space for main auxiliary
equipment and shorten the installation periods for AG
series gas engine, Niigata newly designed and unitize
main auxiliary equipment such as Fuel das filter, Pilot
oil filter, LO purifier, Solenoid valve Box, Air tanks for
starting system and so on.
As a result of new design, Niigata AG series gas
engine achieved 40% saving its space and 30%
reduction of installation periods.

4Easy maintenance for gas engine

4000hrs maintenance free
Niigata Advanced Gas Engine provides simplified structures for easy maintenance for the desirable operation. Niigata AG series
secure the longer maintenance interval compared with conventional spark ignition gas engines.

5Diversity of Gas
Effective utilization of energy sources requires high-efficiency gas engines that use gas fuels with an extremely low calorific value
obtained by gasification of waste, such as derived gas, digester, coal mine methane, landfill and etc.
Digester Gas
Digester gas provides numerous environmental, economic, and technical advantages.
It is available for source of free energy that is produced in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plant. That is meant to
make a reduce methane gas and the cost.
Coal Mine Methane Gas
Methane is generated as a byproduct of the coalification of organic material and is stored under pressure within the coal until
mining activities release it to the atmosphere. To utilize this Methane gas as fuel for power generation is contributed to reduce
Methane emissions from coal mining activities and save the cost.
*Required fuel gas pressure at battery point:0.55~0.6MPa
Landfill Gas
To use the Landfill Gas reduce Bio-Methane emissions from municipal solid waste landfills.
And also save the cost for the fuel to power generation.

This facility contribute to save the maintenance and operation cost and to reduce GHG for global environment protection.

CHP & CCHP

We have solution of CHP(Combined Heat & Power)and CCHP(Combined Cooling, Heat, and Power)system.
These systems are not only save your cost, but also reduce its emissions. Natural Gas is used to generate electricity by our
Advanced Gas Engine. In this process, our engineering is possible to convert the excess heat and steam into the useful energy ,
Cooling & Heating water, air, space, and also Powering industrial boilers.
