The Local 2015 Scholarships in this packet use the GSHS

Standard Application, due in the counselors office


Wednesday March 18 at 4:00pm, unless specified otherwise.
Most scholarships are for only one year and are paid each
semester, unless specified otherwise.

Please note that the value of, and number of scholarships are
determined by the sponsoring organizations and are subject
to change after this list is published

Bolitho Stubler Memorial Scholarship

Amount: 2 @ $1000 each


Criteria:
1. Athletics & activities considered
2. Attend in-state school
3. Grades indicating ability to handle college
Application:

3. 2 letters of recommendation

Bob Willey Scholarship

Amount: 1 @ $1000
Criteria:
1. High school graduate from Roaring Fork School District
2. Attend in-state school 2-year or 4-year
3. A student who most embodies the unique characteristics that
Bob Willey brought to our community
Application:

2. Submit a resume
3. Essay; Considering the characteristics of Bob Willeys life;
what are your biggest passions and how might they lead to the
enrichment of your community? Why are you qualified to be the
recipient of this scholarship?

Chapter AO PEO Book Scholarship

Amount: 4 @ $750 minimum for books. Possibly renewable.


Criteria:
1. Females only
2. Financial Need
3. No specific GPA
Application:

2. Essay: An essay describing your college plans, including your
future and career goals
3. Interview
4. Transcripts

GWS High School Employees Scholarship

Amount: 1 @ $300-$500
Criteria:
1. Active in community service & extra-curricular activities
2. High character and service

Friends of GWS Airport Scholarship


Amount: up to 2 @ $1000 each
Criteria:

1. Pursue career in: 1-aviation, 2-a pilots license, or 3-study


through year program or tech school geared toward aviation
2. Well-rounded student, motivated to do their best, profound
interest in flying or the field of aviation
3. Financial need is not a requirement

Sunlight Mountain Resort Scholarship

Amount: 1 @ $500
Criteria:
1. Former or current member of one of the following:
Sunlight Mountain Resort employee
Sunlight Mountain Resort Ski Patrol
Sunlight Mountain Resort Ski Club
National Ski Patrol
2. Graduate of GSHS with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
3. May attend any school and pursue any career

GWS High School Booster Club Harold Nadon


Scholarship

Amount: 2 @ $750 1 male, 1 female


Criteria
1. Attending any further educational setting
2. Well-rounded student who participated in extra curricular
activities at GSHS

2. Essay: Personal statement addressing desire for higher
education, future career goals, and how they plan to impact their
communities using their college degree and experience

GWS Lions Club Scholarship

Amount: 2 @ $1200 each, renewable for a 2nd


year only
Criteria:
1. Strength of character
2. Extra-curricular involvement
3. Financial need
4. Service to community
Application:
1. GSHS Standard Application with financial form
2. 2 letters of recommendation from teachers
3. Essay on any issue of personal, local or national concern and
its importance to you. Typed 500 word maximum.

GWS Masonic Lodge Ralph Sample Scholarship

Amount: 1@ $1000
Criteria:
1. In-state school
2. Financial need
Application:

2. 3 letters of recommendation: one teacher, one employer, and
one of your choice

GWS Rotary Club Scholarship

Amount: 7@ $2000
Criteria:
1. Character
2. Participation in school activities and community
3. Leadership: student council, church, scouts, etc.
4. Volunteer work

2. Essay: What have you learned about yourself and others while
performing community service? How do you plan to continue your
community service during and after completing your advanced
education?

Ivy Adler Mem. Defiance Community Players


Scholarship

Amount: up to $3000. Usually doesnt exceed $1000, but


exceptions are made, per the decision of the Defiance
Committee. Homschoolers may apply.
Criteria:
1. Performing Arts Major or career path (Music, Dance, Theater)
2. Financial need
3. Content in essay will highly impact decision
Application:

2. Essay: Why I want this scholarship, what I hope to
accomplish in the performing arts, and why I need financial aid.

WOWE Scholarship (In honor of Jerry Sorenson


-Triple Crown Sports

Amount: $500
Criteria:
1. Student athlete from GSHS; excellence & amount of
preparation
2. Must attempt to walk on a college sports team; whether
he/she makes it or not is irrelevant. (Cannot be a Division 1 varsity
team, but can be a Division 1 club team)
3. Student already granted an athletic scholarship (at any
collegiate level) cannot apply

3. Essay: Your efforts in athletics and amount of preparation,
and how that will help you in walking on to the team/school of
your choice. Be specific as to the sport and the school for which
you will be trying out.

Paula Marr Memorial Leadership Scholarship


Sponsored by GSHS Student Council

Amount: $1500
Criteria:
1. Must demonstrate leadership throughout high school career.
2. GPA 3.6 or higher
3. Rigor of high school classes taken into consideration
4. Must plan to attend college in the fall of 2014

4. Answer the following questions. In a formally correct essay of
500 words or less:
1. How will you apply leadership skills that you have acquired to
life after GSHS?

Glenwood Springs Professional Firefighters Local


4341 Scholarship

Amount: 1 @ $1000, or 2@ $500


Criteria:
1. GSHS student interested in a career in fire services, EMT, or
other medical-related field. All encompassing- nursing, pre-med,
athletic training, psychology, etc. ( List in counselors office)
Application:
1. GSHS Standard Application with financial form
2. Three letters of recommendation; 1 from a teacher, 2 from
outside of school.
3. Essay: Why I am choosing this field of study and how this
scholarship would benefit me.
Deadline: March 18

Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club Scholarship

Amount: 2 @ $3,500
Criteria:
1. 2.75 GPA or demonstrate desire to succeed.
2. 20 ACT minimum
3. 1 scholarship reserved for a Key Club member and 1 for a
graduating senior.
Application:

3. 2 confidential evaluations
4. Essay of no more than 250 words. Essays longer than that will
be disqualified. How have my community service activities
contributed to my development.

Juicy Lucys Steakhouse

Amount: $1000 per year renewable for three years


Must maintain a 3.0 GPA while in college and submit a transcript
each semester.
Criteria:
1. Financial Need
2. Must attend college in the fall immediately after high school
graduation
3. Must attend a 4 year accredited college or university
4. Must show strength of character-community service
5. Graduate GSHS with a 3.5 GPA or higher
6. Well rounded and motivated to succeed in secondary
education
